In 1989, Vaughn and his brother Ron Benjamin formed Midnite in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. The band became a cornerstone of modern roots reggae, known for its "naked and raw" sound and meditative, hours-long live performances. In 2015, the band transitioned into Akae Beka, a name taken from the Book of Enoch. Vaughn continued his prolific career under this name until his death.
