Svinjska obara

Uncommon Sense in Current Times
The Dating Crisis in America | J.P. De Gance on the Church’s Role in Restoring Family & Faith
What happens when marriage collapses and the church stays silent? In this episode of Uncommon Sense in Current Times, I speak with J.P. De Gance, president of Communio, to expose the growing crisis of Christian marriage in America—and why the church must reclaim its role in shaping relationships, families and the future of faith. From collapsing marriage rates to the rise of dating apps and the demasculinization of men, the cultural revolution is reshaping how young people find love and build families. But De Gance argues the church can, and must, lead a re...

Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that [a]moves on the earth.” Genesis 1:28This is the first command God ever gave to human beings—before any other commandments including not to eat of the Tree. It is a pregnant command that demands the union of a man and woman in marriage, the establishment of a home, and passing the command on to succeeding generations to be obe...

Wouldn’t it be fascinating if the most current social science research discovered not some new and unheard-of things but rather ancient and even biblical truths? The nonprofit organization Communio is reporting that this is indeed what is happening. Alongside that, of course, we regularly find people who do better in school, who are more successful in work, who are healthier, and who can manage relationships better on their own. It...

Chemist Warehouse – Jack Gance revolutionises retailing in Australia, upending the traditional Pharmacy model. And why he wants to expand via a merger with Sigma Healthcare (Replay from the vault).
An immigrant child of Polish Jewish parents, Jack Gance ended up disrupting several entire industries with HIS model of shopkeeping through suburban Australia. The pharmacist turned into an entrepreneur by chance really. After gaining his Pharmacy degree, Jack and his brother Sam started with just 1 pharmacy in the early 1970’s, which they slowly built on. Along the journey, Jack Gance totally upended the way traditional pharmacies in Aussie suburbs operate, by essentially making all the other products chemists sell aside from prescriptions, much more enticing and cheaper for shoppers. He also built a distribution business in the process. Af...

For our discussion of Ridley Scott's new historical epic, Napoleon, we have the privilege of being joined by Paul Cuff, a film historian and expert on the Napoleonic era in cinema, including and especially Abel Gance's Napoléon from 1927, about which he wrote A Revolution for the Screen: Abel Gance's Napoleon. Together, we ask whether Scott's film has anything to say about the man whose life it depicts - and if so what? - whether its ahistoricity matters, and how substantially it fleshes out its characters and the events and relationships dramatised. Recorded on 26th November 2023.

Build It. They'll Come.
Chemist Warehouse – Jack Gance revolutionises retailing in Australia, upending the traditional Pharmacy model. And why he can’t stop!

He also built a distribution business in the process. Over 51 years in business Jack Gance built up h...

Episode 002: Napoléon (1927)
Dear friends, A century after production started, and 94 years since its first public screening, Abel Gance’s silent historical epic Napoléon is still being completed. The mere thought could no doubt give most working filmmakers (and a goodly number of critics) deep pause, if not shuddering anxiety. Yet, for a film so defined—in its very form, its voice—by its maker’s grand ambitions, surely there is no more fitting state for it than one of constant, unprecedented flux? Gance wished this work to transform the cinema. In an immediate sense, history was against him, with unap...

Since the beginning of film as a narrative and artistic medium, historical events and eras have been popular subjects for filmmakers. The decade of the 1810s, however, has not tended to show up in movies or on TV as frequently or consistently as other eras—but there are still plenty of examples of the second decade on film. Beginning in the 1920s with French filmmaker Abel Gance, depictions of the 1810s, many involving Napoleon or adaptations of popular and classic novels, have woven their way through the history of visual media with varying results.
