Слово фанк — означает танцевать так, чтобы очень сильно взмокнуть. «Фанк» («Get funk!, Get funky!») джазовые музыканты употребляли с начала XX века, когда обращались к зрителям, наряду с ним употреблялось слово «сканк» (англ. skunk). Впоследствии слово фанк закрепилось за стилем музыки, который считается наиболее танцевальным во всём ритм-энд-блюзе.
У Фанка много разновидностей, начиная от джаз-фанк, заканчивая эклектрофанком.

And I want to open this selection with King Funk, with vocalist Jay Kay, vocalist of the group Jami'rokuay!
The word funk means to dance so that you get very wet. “Funk” (“Get funk !, Get funky!”) Has been used by jazz musicians since the beginning of the 20th century when they addressed the audience, along with the word “skunk”. Subsequently, the word funk stuck to the style of music, which is considered the most danceable in the whole rhythm and blues.
Funk has many varieties, ranging from jazz funk to eclectrofunk.
