Buddhists speak of beginner’s mind. It’s the ability to forget what we think we know, and view everything as if we were seeing it for the first time. It’s an incredibly difficult thing to do. Almost always, we see what we expect to see, what we have seen before, what we have been taught to see. I had a moment of beginner’s mind this week as I looked at Sunday’s scripture readings. Many Biblical scholars might suggest that I had a moment of losing my mind, but we shall see.
