Galesburg's Morning NewsFrom Galesburg to Glory: Honoring 12 African American Civil War heroesState Representative Dan Swanson will read a Resolution on the House on Tuesday in Springfield, recognizing 12 Galesburg African Americans who enlisted in the US Army, traveled to Massachusetts and fought with the 54th Mass in the Civil War. The regiment is renowned for being one of the first Black regiments in the Union Army, and is the unit depicted in the movie Glory.
