Ed Cherry • Are We There yet? ©️ 2023 Cellar Live #blues #jazz #swing
Два свежих оригинала и восемь прекрасных аранжировок на новом альбоме Are We There Yet? ©️ 2023 Cellar Live Ed Cherry - guitar Monty Croft - vibraphone Kyle Kohler - Hammond B3 organ Byron ‘Wookie’ Landham - drums Recorded at GB’s Juke Joint, LIC NYC on June 16th, 2022 Engineered by Hector Castillo, assisted by Andrés Cottin Mixed and mastered by Shawn Pierce released January 20, 2023 #blues #swing #jazz

Ian Morris returns to The Commonwealth Club for an online discussion of his latest research into the deep history of the human race. In the wake of Brexit, Morris now tackles the 8 millennia history of Britain's relationship to Europe as that relationship keeps changing in the context of a continually globalizing world. When Britain voted to leave the European Union in 2016, the 48 percent who wanted to stay and the 52 percent who wanted to go each accused the other of stupidity, fraud and treason. But the Brexit debate merely reran a script written 8,000 years earlier, when rising seas...

Whether we want to accept it or not we all have or will deal with separation anxiety sometime in our life. The question is how will we manage it? Although the United Nations Genocide Convention was established in 1948, not until 1998 did an international tribunal identify a criminal genocide. That finding stemmed from an April 1994 massacre of 800,000 mostly Tutsi Rwandans. Seven months after that atrocity, the UN Security Council responded by establishing the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, whose purpose was to prosecute people responsible. The first round of prosecutions, held between 1995 and 1999, put seven people on trial and handed down the first conviction on September 2, 1998 – against the former bourgmestre (mayor) of Taba, Jean-Paul Akayesu. #76 Where Do Stories Come From? Writing Sagas, with Jean Grainger
The Irish are born storytellers and Indie author, Jean Grainger, is no exception. Following in the tradition of Maeve Binchy, Jean’s sagas span centuries and wars, exploring friendships and family ties. If your heart is broken it hurts, Jean says, a theme embedded in all her stories. With three novels published and one on the way, Jean is a natural. By day she teaches poetry to teenage boys and for the rest of the time she writes, sometimes up to 20,000 words a week, discovering her passion for writing whilst in the midst of a Phd on Irish Women in...

Human Rights a Day
June 24, 1834 - St. Jean Baptiste Day
Quebec’s Saint Jean Baptiste Day gets its origins. The pagan celebrations of the summer solstice turned into a religious celebration during the reign of King Clovis of France in the 5th century. He decided to mark the birth of John the Baptist, the man who baptized Jesus Christ, on June 24. Given the date’s proximity to the summer solstice, it’s celebrated with bonfires symbolizing lighting up the world. European Catholics, especially in France, celebrate it with vigor, as do Quebecers, who call it the Fête Nationale (National Holiday). In Canada the holiday began on June 24, 1834 when 60 prominent Francop...

I've always tried to keep my personal and professional life separate, but these days it seems the lines are increasingly blurred. It's no secret that much to my amazement and delight I've become a father again which accounts for my recent sabbatical from the radio. So, whilst I was reconciled to the idea of parenthood returning to the agenda despite my (ahem) advancing years, I never anticipated..... twins!!!! A double blessing for sure, but that's easily said by those who've never actually experienced the reality of dealing with two wee ones simultaneously! It's relentless, they sleep deprivation is a...

Gaydar, the Me Generation, IQ tests and learning disabilities
Sexuality and Faces - How does our "Gaydar" work ?Most of us think we're pretty good at guessing when somebody's gay or straight, but what signals are we using to make our decision, and how often are we right ? Psychologists at Queen Mary University of London are, for the first time, trying to isolate the individual signals and patterns in somebody's face, in order to work out exactly what motivates us to make a snap decision about sexuality. Using cutting edge computer imagery, researchers have found a way of transferring male facial expressions onto female faces and...
