Bearing Witness: The Impact of MemorializationBearing Witness: Les Anneaux de la MémoireIn 1992, Les Anneaux de la Mémoire (The Shackles of Memory) was an exhibition which was focused on the city of Nantes, France and its role and complicity as a trading port along the route of enslaved people in the 18th century. The exhibition was such a success that it became an association in Nantes that to this day publishes journals, researches and curates memorials and exhibitions, and commemorates people who were enslaved in the Western slave trades.
