Different Noises
DIfferent Noises 85
The blues is at the heart of rock ‘n’ roll, one might argue the great-grandfather of the whole thing. Since rock arrived in its nascent form protean changes have led to multiple genres. But if you listen carefully somewhere in there the blues roots are still evident. This week a few examples of this. Featuring music from Smoked Salmon, THE NECTARINE NO.9 , Occult Character, The Bolshoi Brothers, Backxwash, Skip James, Loscil, Severed Heads, Gijs Levelt, Claude9, The Go-Betweens, 2 Lost Souls, The Dave Graney Show, The Fauves, Dream Cycle Inc., Jeff Gburek, Kris Gruda, Gillsaw, Emily Allison and Boris Schmidt, and...

Reanimations (w/ Ilaria Boffa)
Matter, mater, madre Matter, mater, madre the origin of things and their substance. The manner in which molecules interact with one another, bind to one another break inhibitions and conceive anew while ignoring other choices. Things and their substance our substance. To the eye the task and the peril of matching what appears with what it’s familiar, dispensing with experience. The loss of the univocal and unambiguous certainty of proximity. Your substance that I borrow from the stream when it steers its current and enlaces my forearm abandoned to its will. My substance detrital and lithified at the estuary. Ma...

Amazonas(Flying Rivers)
From the album Flying Rivers (Jeff Gburek & George Christian). The soundscape entitled "Amazonas" was composed after careful listening to the extensive field recording of the Mamori Lake area in Brazil made by Thelmo Cristovam. Within this ambience I wove the other sounds of George Christian walking in San Salvador, the voice of a young indigenous girl singing a song to the river. I wrote a poem in English which George Christian translated into Portuguese. I asked various Portuguese speaking friends to read the poem. Many thanks again to Ana Kavalis (Cuba/ Berlin), Cristina Ferreia (Poznan/ Porto, Portugal) , Denize Mota (Poznan...

Arpeggios of Silence April 12 mix
An arpeggio, poetically speaking, is a chord that cannot keep itself together, which breaks up into notes chasing one another in an endless cycle, tones, following, repeating themselves in a samsaric search for lost origins across associative distancing. It is an intelligent dance organization of a mobile of elements jiggled by invisible forces. As the broken chord staggers over the soundscape, the death knells of individual silences burst onto the shore and withdraw. There are so many sounds to the attentive listeners that it is actually the unsound or the silence that speaks, issues though the fissures. Here we have...

The Water Of The Water op 484
Day and night there is movement of foam on the Sea. You see the foam, but not the Sea. Amazing! We are dashing against each other like boats: are eyes are darkened though we're in clear water. O you who've gone to sleep in the body's boat, you've seen the water, but look at the Water of the water. The water has a Water that is driving it; the spirit has a Spirit that is calling it. Voscillations
Excerpt from the final moment from "Where Does the Listening Begin", a 40 minute composition for 4 channels premiered in Usti Nad Labem, Czech Republic, as part of the Murmurans Mundus, 2019. It has been rather difficult to come up with a stereo version of the original concept. After having abandoned several attempts at an intelligent reduction I can live with, I scrapped them all. Only this segment seems to stand on it's own. That is likely due to the voices who participated in the call to action. I thank them. Palo Novo 233, Bulgaria Sketches
here's something maybe nothing to someone who knows everything already or who has anticipated all dimensions and understood it's always been there and here and therefore so what. in any case, it became a linear thread in my personal history little over a month ago when I found a strange hybrid interlocking of vamps in flamenco, jazz manouche, samba & bosa nova. I still can't really play it perhaps because the metal strings don't sound warm enough for some Brazilian vibes and this maybe frustrates the ears. that said, this is weirdly experimental music that maybe sounds like some tradition that...

Ceres 1, 233
This is my first attempt to create a long form piece that is not based on the concept of "exciting" or "capturing the attention" of the listener but is designed rather to confirm and elevate an ongoing life process by providing a smooth and supportive sound sensation, something that gently colors already existing spaces. May it be thought of as hanging on the air like a wisp of cloud or incense. It's approximately 36 minutes long but is based on an extended phased looping of guitar tones in a software process that can potentially run to infinity and which has no...
