Lambert Bridge - Jennifer Higgins
Lambert Bridge Winery is truly a magical place. With our soaring redwood barrel room and incredible gardens set against the backdrop of redwood trees, the winery has come to define luxury and elegance through our “less is more” philosophy. We are a family owned winery handcrafting limited production, artisanal wines within the Dry Creek Valley of Healdsburg, California. The C.L. Lambert Family settled in the Dry Creek Valley a century ago. Jerry Lambert, of no relation, was drawn to our property six decades later with world-class winemaking in mind. Jerry founded the winery in 1975 and it grew rapidly producing more...

Oh, Happy Day!
Now that most states are removing their Covid restrictions, what does this mean for our daily lives? Over the past year and a half, we’ve been so conditioned to fear that vile disease, we’re like a freaked-out groundhog afraid of seeing his own shadow. Surely, it can’t be over? Can we really get back to our normal day-to-day existence? Yes! And no. This episode is also available as a blog post: https://becomenostalgicabouttoday.wordpress.com/2021/05/27/oh-happy-day/

Leaf Shadows
There is no argument that technology has made our lives simpler in a myriad of ways. Just a few moments ago, an angry thunderstorm blew through our neighborhood. Using the Weather Channel app, I was able see it coming and determined that I should cover my grill. I might even want to tie it down! I haven’t seen wind like that in I don’t know when. Dance, Dance, Dance
My wife and I attended an outdoor concert while we were on vacation in 2019. It was a Cheap Trick cover band, which I loved, but the audience response was lukewarm. Until the group did their second set, the Beatles. Then the dance floor filled up quickly. Since I was recovering from a foot injury, my wife and I could only watch. She always wants to dance these days. Oh, how the tables have turned. This episode is also available as a blog post: https://becomenostalgicabouttoday.wordpress.com/2021/05/31/dance-dance-dance/

The Snipe Hunt
There’s an old tradition that revolves around summer camps and kids with too much time on their hands. The Snipe Hunt. If you’ve never seen a snipe, it’s a rare, exotic bird that only seems to show itself when bored kids are around. The hunt for this elusive creature has been going on since the 1840s. Moving the Girls
Teenage guys today don’t know how good they’ve got it. If they feel the urge to check out pics of hot babes, wearing nothing but their birthday suits, they’re only a click away. Boy, how things have changed. These underage horndogs will never have to figure out how to get their hands on a Playboy or Penthouse magazine. Mask Wars
I witnessed an incident at the Ophthalmologist’s office yesterday that got me thinking. As I was checking in, a woman came up to the front desk and asked the receptionist if masks were still mandatory in the building. Of course they were. We all saw the sign on the way in and had our temperature taken by thermometer gun. However, there’s more to the story. That’s an old-fashioned phrase you don’t hear much anymore. In the past, it’s been used to describe a hotel room or condo while you’re on vacation. The Rude Awakening
Have you ever been awoken by a strange noise in the middle of the night? A sound that immediately set your spider-senses tingling? After our beloved hound dog passed away, I was plagued by things that went bump in the night. My theory had always been, if it didn’t bother her, it didn’t bother me. As I watched another pickup truck and trailer make a pit stop in front of my house, it caused me to reflect on our life here in the cul-de-sac. Three Lessons We've Learned During the Pandemic - David Lat
When David Lat, Managing Partner of Lateral Link, contracted COVID-19 back in March, he made the pandemic real and personal for many of us in the legal industry. Three months later, I have him as my last guest on In Seclusion and ask him what lessons we've learned through it all. He gave me three. We've learned to work successfully on a remote basis. This is no small deal for the legal industry who stressed the need to be in the office. Lawyers and legal professionals have learned how to use more technology tools in a more effective...

Being a Tech-Savvy Law Office Is No Longer Optional - Victoria Hudgins
Victoria Hudgins, Reporter at LegalTechNews, reports on the legal tech sector and noticed that some of the first cuts that major law firms made during the pandemic were related to their technology innovation teams. Lawyers and tech staff were subjected to layoffs, furloughs, and pay cuts almost immediately as firms feared a reduction in revenue and work. She wonders what that means for these legal innovation teams. Will firms take their foot off the gas on innovation? How long will law firms continue to invest in these teams? Will the resulting actions be that law firms will have to...

Crisis is the Father of Innovation - Patrick DiDomenico
Patrick DiDomenico, the Chief Innovation Officer at Jackson Lewis, says that while Necessity may be the Mother of Invention, Crisis may be the Father of Innovation. And this year is definitely filled with crisis events. While the remote nature of work is a challenge, it has also been a bit of a blessing in disguise. The need to be responsive also enables us to be proactive, and that has helped pull teams together to be innovative and do some really great things. Sometimes the need to respond to a crisis can break the paralysis that plagues some law firms...

Joshua Lenon, Lawyer in Residence at CLIO, works in a cloud-based environment where the idea is to operate consistently, regardless of physical location. And that’s exactly what they have done over the past three-plus months. For others in the legal field to follow this lead, he says that we need to invest more in technology for our staff, as well as shift more operations away from the physical office and more toward cloud systems. Having successful operations like that makes it a lot easier to continue remaining safe and productive remotely until it is safer for all of us...

David thinks that firms are honestly trying to help their clients through the distribution of relevant information, but the way the information is distributed, accessed and indexed is creating barriers for the client that needs to be corrected. Instead, we'll have shorter lessons with flipped classroom styles where the information is processed beforehand, and the classroom is used to discuss and relate to the information.
