John F. Kennedy and PT-109
On August 2, 1943, a patrol boat commanded by a young John F. Kennedy was rammed by a Japanese destroyer in the waters of the Solomon Islands. Despite his own injuries, the 26-year old Kennedy spent the next week attempting to get himself and the surviving crew to safety. He even used a life jacket strap clenched between his teeth to tow an injured crewman in the water for more than five hours. This is the story of John F. Kennedy and PT 109. God, human folly and laughter
“There are three things which are real: God, human folly and laughter. The first two are beyond our comprehension, so we must do what we can with the third.”—John F. KennedyI don’t recall precisely when I read these lines for the first time, but since that day, long ago, the words have never left me. From time to time I’ve wondered about the context in which Jack Kennedy spoke them, and was surprised to learn recently of their origin. They were written, not spoken, and were inscribed on a silver mug presented as a birthday...

The Hated and the Dead
EP35: John F. Kennedy
John F. Kennedy served as President of the United States from 1961 until his assassination in November 1963. An impressive and courageous record as president demonstrates Kennedy's unmistakable personal fortitude, but his legacy has been tarnished by his lack of faithfulness to his wife Jackie, and evidence he slept with women linked to the mafia and America's enemies abroad. My guest for this conversation is Stephen F. Knott, professor of National Security Affairs at the US Naval War College in Rhode Island. He has written nine books, and his next one, Coming to Terms with John F Kennedy, comes o...

When Ambassador , and Republican, Henry Cabot Lodge pushed Diem to remove his brother General Ngo from command of the Army, and Diem refused, a coup by the other Generals in South Vietnam was given a tacit go ahead. He was taken to a doctor, who concluded that the 30-year-old man was in such terrible shape that he’d be dead within a year.
