Possession Jag (The Exorcist)
There are two kinds of people in the world — those who think that The Exorcist (1973) is the greatest horror movie ever made, and those who refuse to flush the toilet in a public restroom.Levi kicks it off with a look at the generational divide that made this movie such a bombshell upon its release, while Johnathon sheds light on the process of becoming a cranky old man. Greys and Brown (Suspiria 2018)
Johnathon and Levi celebrate the month of October with a special guest, and everyone has opinions about the 2018 not-quite-remake of Suspiria. Levi puts the movie on his October must-watch list, while Johnathon mumbles about the bona fides of Dario Argento's original. Also, everyone has thoughts about women and Joss Whedon.

Sewer Moist (CHUD)
What do homeless people do when they're denied social services, charity, and housing? They worship nuclear waste and transform into mutant cannibals. Except for Utah. In Utah they get a place to live. Johnathon and Levi cover every exquisite detail of CHUD, a cult classic.

Christina Lauren’s The Honey Don’t List
Oh, how us romance junkies love a punny title. Except maybe this one. It’s just a little too odd. And why is the cover so . . . generic? Why, oh why, didn’t the illustrator go with a stylized home DIY theme? Ugh! Megan would have loved to be in charge of this publication. Megan will read almost any CLo book, especially one that’s . . . forced proximity! This was the 1st time Johnathon liked it better. The Thing About Free Will (The Thing)
Johnathon and Levi skip right over their collective jealousy of Kurt Russell's beard to mansplain why great practical effects will always beat CGI. Levi provides a precise measurement of the amount of KY Jelly needed to bring a shape-shifting alien parasite to life. Johnathon wonders whether Norwegians are better with explosives in real life. Finally, both of your hosts take a heavy detour into the debate over free will — while consistently stumbling over the world "cellular."

But Their Uniforms (Shockwaves)
Shockwaves debuted in the same year as Star Wars: A New Hope. Surprisingly, fewer people stood in line to see it. Shockwaves stars Peter Cushing, David Caradine, and a group of stuntmen who got really, really good at holding their breath. Johnathon and Levi talk bathing suits, the lamentable persistence of fascism, and why the Victrola and the banjo are basically the same thing.

The Carp is a Tasty Fish (The Exorcist III)
Is the Exorcist III better than the original? Maybe not, but it's still a terrific sequel with stand out performances by George C. Scott and Brad Dourif. Johnathon and Levi discuss the lost art of monologuing, whether supernatural evil is de facto proof of supernatural good, and one of the best jump scares in the history of cinema.

Larry Cohen's 1974 horror film It's Alive is a forgotten (and surprisingly timeless) classic. Levi and Johnathon discuss the film's place in the canon of monster movies, the moral and ethical implications of birthing a monster, whether the philosophy of antinatalism has a leg to stand on, and why you should never mess with Mama Bear.

Alyssa Cole & Lucy Eden, The Novella Bonus
Sometimes, a wonderful thing happens and Megan’s lack of planning works out. This is one of those times. Okay, not really that big of a deal, but I (Megan) forgot there was a bonus, 5th Monday in the month of June so you kids get extra content. Yay! This week, we’re talking about romance novellas. They’re short. They’re (hopefully) sweet. And we got to squeeze two books into one time slot! Book 1: Alyssa Cole’s Once Ghosted, Twice shyBook 2: Lucy Eden’s Blind Date with a Book Boyfriend

Moviesode: You’ve Got Mail/The Shop Around the Corner
This week, we watched Nora Ephron’s beloved romcom classic, You’ve Got Mail as well as the lesser known (by modern generations) 1940 Ernst Lubitch film, The Shop Around the Corner. Did you recognize that name? Yep! The Shop Around the Corner is the name of Kathleen Kelly’s magical children’s bookstore in You’ve Got Mail. (Nice nod, Nora.) Johnathon was pleasantly surprised by the old movie and if you get the chance to watch it, you’ll find it Cracker Jack full of witty banter and colorful characters (looking at you, Pepi).

Kate Clayborne’s Love Lettering: a romcom of fonts
Megan loved it. Johnathon disliked it. More importantly, what do you think? Hey look. Not every book is for everybody. We discuss that here. As well as why it is definitely OKAY not to like something, even when it's as well written and humorous as Love Lettering. This episode is a little long. Megan can't shut up about the cozy-blanket-and-cup-of-tea-on-a-crisp-autumn-day-ness of this book. It channels Nora Ephron's wit, shows New York at its best, and the love between Meg and Reid is lovely (but also gets pretty steamy). Love Lettering...

The Aftermath: A Movie Minisode
Romance comes in movie form, too. And we’re experimenting with our film format a little. This week we watched The Aftermath (2019), directed by James Kent and starting Keira Knightley, Jason Clarke, and Alexander Skarsgard. It’s a beautiful movie that depicts the likely realities of a marriage after suffering through WWII and the death of their son in the Blitzkrieg bombings. Then, a love triangle forms and complicated things further. Megan & Johnathon both recommend this film for the brilliant acting (so many emotional breakdowns) and it’s portrayal of The Other (as in England vs. Germ...
