The Last of the Ham Radios
You may be surprised to learn that ham radio kits are no longer manufactured or sold in the United States. The internet has claimed another victim. At the start of 2012 Jonesonian archivist Ashley Ward was tasked with monitoring the dwindling range of ham radio signals. She eventually identified and recorded the final transmission ever to be broadcast via ham radio in this country. It featured a woman in Macon, Georgia going by the callsign ‘Lady Jane 43’. By a cruel twist of fate her first broadcast also turned out to be the nation's last. CAT:JON591#33HR (Archivist: Ashley Ward)
