In der Nacht zum Mittwoch hat Iran zwei US-Militärcamps in Irak angegriffen. Dies sei ein “Schlag ins Gesicht” der USA gewesen, sagt das geistliche und staatliche Oberhaupt Irans, Ajatollah Ali Chamenei. Und eine angemessene Vergeltung für die Tötung des iranischen Generals Soleimani.
Dies könnte die Lage wieder entspannen, sagt der Leiter der SZ-Außenpolitik, Stefan Kornelius. Auch die USA könnten es dabei belassen, denn niemandem sei mit einer weiteren Eskalation auf längere Sicht gedient.
