Christmas Past
Backstory: Wren Day
The small, unassuming wren may be nothing much to look at, but wait till it starts singing. Its loud, complex songs, and its tendency to sing them throughout winter, has earned it the title of “King of Birds.” But on December 26, the king is dead. Wren Day is a traditional hunting of the wren, followed by celebrations that include disguise, door-to-door visiting and parading, and song. It’s certainly one of our most strange and mysterious Christmas customs, a mixture of Celtic mythology, old Christmas traditions, and revenge for giving away secrets. The Witchcast With Lucy Cavendish
The Witchcast - Imagining the Witch - a conversation with Spellbox creator and author Danae Moon Thorp
Once upon a time, when we could all travel the magickal lands of the world, many a pointy-hatted pilgrim would wind their way to a sacred site right in the middle of the Royal Arcade in Melbourne…Spellbox. Ben And Mary
I wrote this in Columbus Ohio whilst was touring the world with 1927 Theatre. We were performing at the Wexner Arts Centre at the same time there was a screening of a film about Bossanova legend Carlos Jobim. I really wanted to see the film, but couldn't as I was performing. So instead i wrote this in honour of him. The Ice cream was inspired by Jeni's Icecream, which was stunning - If you're ever in Columbus try it! Springtime has begun Lovers kissing in the sun Eating ice-cream off one spoon Making out to their favourite tunes
