#92 A Few of my Favorite Things: Kicking Off Christmas with An Act of Surrender and Trust, May It Be as You Say-Luke 1:38
Trusting God in the unknown is hard, even when you love Him. Even when you have seen His faithfulness time after time. Today, I’m unpacking one of my favorite scriptures nestled into the Christmas story. Luke 1:38 is Mary’s response to God when He called her into a future she didn’t understand or ask for. Do you find yourself in a place where God is calling you to do something you don’t understand? Or, maybe you have said yes to Him and are in the middle of what that yes looks like, won...

Luke 12 - Life is not measured
We can't take wealth with us after death, so where should it go?Yet again we find a tension between "responsible financial planning" (ie saving for retirement) and "good spiritual stewardship" (ie living generously without worry for tomorrow). In Luke 12 Jesus tells a parable about a rich fool, who stored up the proceeds of a fantastic harvest only to die before enjoying any benefits. In a society like Australia where superannuation (retirement savings) is required of every employer, hopefully it is indeed possible to "have a rich relationship with God" despite storing up earthly wealth!

E71: Contextualizing Luke 9:23
"If anyone would come after me, let him take up his cross daily, and follow me". These words spoken by Jesus in Luke's gospel are powerful indeed, and yet the meaning and force behind these words has been diluted over time and across generations. What did Jesus mean when he uttered these words? How can we apply them in our day and time? K...

Last Week's Episode...Today
Sorry for the delay. Life is a never ending gauntlet of suffering, loss and bitter partings. Anywho, Gomer was unable to record. Luke put out a few random requests for pitch-hitters on Twitter and Instagram, AND SO MANY OF YOU RESPONDED! This was such a fun epsiode to record. I think you'll enjoy it. We look at the story in Luke 8. Share your comments and questions with us at sabbathschoolfromhome@gmail.com so that we can share them with the broader listening community.

Luke 11 - Because of your shameless persistence
This week's lesson is "Prayer Power: Interceding for Others", and we explore Jesus' teachings on prayer in Luke 11.The passage contains The Lord's Prayer, and then immediately follows it with a somewhat difficult parable about asking persistently. In fact, this is similar to the parable of the Persistent Widow in Luke 18:1-8. If you'd like to answer any of our various questions at the end of this episode (or share any other comments), write to us at sabbathschoolfromhome@gmail.com

Luke 16 - They won’t be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead
We find a slightly different angle on this week's lesson "The Power of Personal Testimony" by discussing Jesus' parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus.Since it's school holidays and kids are visiting grandparents, Lachlan's wife Clansi joins as a special guest. Luke 16 begins with the parable of the Shrewd Manager, and this turns out to help us explore interesting aspects of the Rich Man and Lazarus. As always, send comments and questions to sabbathschoolfromhome@gmail.com so that we can share them with the broader listening community.
