Ep 8: Menopause Isn’t the End of Strength - It’s a Signal Problem (How ALT Training Rebuilds Power When Your Body Starts Misfiring)
Sick of being told "women should lift heavy" and not knowing how to start? In this episode, I talk about the complexities of menopause and how it affects women’s strength training. I break down what’s actually happening in the body when hormones shift - especially how it impacts the nervous system and introduce a system I use called Asymmetrical Load Tolerance (ALT). It’s a way to help women maintain strength, coordination, and stability through perimenopause and beyond. I’ll walk you through the physiology, explain the concept of signal loss, and show you how...

Being Low in This Fatty Acid Could Worsen Your Period (and Endo) Pain
Today we’re continuing with our discussion on low nutrient levels and their association with period pain. Menstruation is often (though not always) one of the most painful parts of the menstrual cycle, for people with endometriosis - and a connection we see between both dysmenorrhea (which is the medical term for period pain) and endometriosis, is low omega 3 fatty acids.Omega 3 fatty acids are the precursors to anti-inflammatory prostaglandins; which basically means omega 3 makes our anti-inflammatory prostaglandins. In contrast, omega 6 makes our inflammatory prostaglandins, namely prostaglandin E2. And for those of who don’t know, prostaglandins, in t...

Episode 45: Paper Mills and Bogus Research
“In today’s episode, Dr. Jaime Hoerricks argues that the prevalence of “paper mills” in academic publishing poses a serious threat to the integrity of autism research, particularly in the case of the MDPI journal Journal of Personalized Medicine. These “paper mills” prioritise rapid publication and high acceptance rates, often at the expense of thorough peer review, leading to the publication of low-quality studies. One such study, published by MDPI, claimed to reverse autism symptoms through lifestyle modifications but lacked crucial ethical approvals and methodological rigor. The article criticizes MDPI’s publication model and the media's sensationalized reporting of such studies...

https://open.firstory.me/join/linshibi

Podcasts. Hello all, today I will be talking about Halobacterium NRC-1, or ATCC 700922. Halobacterium is a genus of Halobacteriaceae. The Halobacterium species is actually not a bacteria, however, it belongs to the archea domain. Halobacterium was originally studied in the 1960s, brine shrimp, who are filter feeders, would consume the Halobacterium, in turn, flamingos would eat the brine shrimp, giving them the pigment that they are. The genus Halobacterium ("salt" or "ocean bacterium") consists of several species of the Archaea with an aerobic metabolism which requires an environment with a high concentration of salt; many o...
