Tora has finally passed the interview and started working part-time. He's a bit relieved to be working in the same restaurant as his friends, but as a first-timer in part-time work, Tora has many questions. What is the hardest part of a part-time job? Is it relaxing to have a job with a lot of free time? On the contrary, what was enjoyable? And so on. Drawing on my own experience of working in Japan and Australia, I answered these questions. Additionally, observing international students working part-time and Indonesian restaurant staff, I discussed the differences in work styles between Japanese and foreigners.

2023-12-2433 minNihongo Toranomaki -Learn Japanese from Real conversation!!110. 映画の新たな発見！Youtube世代が見たハリウッド映画の魅力！Discovering Cinema Anew: The Allure of Hollywood Movies Through the Eyes of the YouTube Generation!最近(さいきん)の若(わか)い子(こ)は生(う)まれたころからスマホがあるので、テレビや映画(えいが)にあまり馴染(なじ)みがなく、YouTube、Tiktok、Instagramばかり見(み)ていることも多(おお)いです。そんな若者(わかもの)世代(せだい)のとらくんが実(じつ)は最近(さいきん)初(はじ)めてハリウッド映画(えいが)を見(み)てハマったそうです。見(み)た映画(えいが)は、「ミッションインポッシブル」なのですが、ドキドキするストーリー展開(てんかい)、トムクルーズのアクション、CGのすごさに感動(かんどう)したそうです。とらくんは、代表的(だいひょうてき)なハリウッド映画(えいが)、例(たと)えばタイタニック、マトリックスなども見(み)たことがなく、映画(えいが)といえばアニメしか見(み)たことがないと言(い)うので驚(おどろ)きました。そこで今回(こんかい)はYouTube世代(せだい)のとらくんと、アニメではない、実写(じっしゃ)映画(えいが)の魅力(みりょく)について話(はな)しました。
In today's digital era, where young people have grown up with smartphones, it's not uncommon to find that they're less familiar with traditional TV and movies. Instead, platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram dominate their media consumption. Tora-kun is a typical example of this trend. Surprisingly, he only recently discovered the world of Hollywood cinema, and he's completely captivated. His first pick? 'Mission Impossible.' He was thrilled by Tom Cruise's action-packed scenes, the gripping storyline, and the stunning CG effects. It was astonishing to learn that Tora-kun hadn't seen classic Hollywood films like 'Titanic' or 'The Matrix' – his experience with movies had been limited to anime. This episode explores this fascinating generational gap, delving into the charm of Hollywood and the appeal of live-action films beyond the realm of anime.

2023-12-1732 minNihongo Toranomaki -Learn Japanese from Real conversation!!109. カリフォルニア、スラブシティの生き方。物やお金に縛られない自由とは。Living in Slab City, California: The Freedom Beyond Material and Monetary Bonds今回(こんかい)はYouTubeで見(み)たカリフォルニアにあるスラブシティという場所(ばしょ)の話(はなし)をしました。スラブシティには法律(ほうりつ)がなく、人々(ひとびと)が自由(じゆう)に暮(く)らしています。「法律(ほうりつ)がない」というととても怖(こわ)い場所(ばしょ)のように思(おも)えますが、詳(くわ)しく見(み)てみると、お金(かね)や物(もの)に縛(しば)られず、人々(ひとびと)がお互(たが)いリスペクトし合(あ)って生活(せいかつ)しているようです。新(あたら)しいiPhoneを買(か)ったばかりの私(わたし)ですが、物(もの)を持(も)つこと、お金(かね)を持(も)つことについてもう一度(いちど)考(かんが)え直(なお)すいい機会(きかい)になりました。とても面白(おもしろ)い街(まち)だと思(おも)うので、みなさんも今回(こんかい)のエピソードを聞(き)いて、現代(げんだい)の消費(しょうひ)社会(しゃかい)を見直(みなお)してみてもいいかもしれませんね。
In this episode, I talked about a place called Slab City in California, which I saw on YouTube. Slab City is a lawless area where people live freely. The phrase 'without law' might make it seem like a scary place, but on closer inspection, it appears people live there respecting each other, unbound by money or possessions. As someone who just bought a new iPhone, this was a good opportunity for me to rethink what it means to own things and to have money. I think it's a very interesting town, so listening to this episode might also be a good chance for everyone to reconsider our modern consumer society.

友達の住（す）んでいる町（まち）には、私たちは行（い）ったことがなく、どんな場所（ばしょ）なのかも知（し）らなかったのですが、のんびりして素敵（すてき）なところでした。なにより、私たちの大好物（だいこうぶつ）、うなぎが美味（おい）しくて安（やす）いことで有名（ゆうめい）です。友達が炭（すみ）で焼（や）いてくれたうなぎが美味しくて感動（かんどう）した話、もちろんメルボルンの話、それから海産物（かいさんぶつ）の別名（べつめい）についてなども話しました。
Tora and I visited my friend who is hosting an exchange student. Surprisingly, the student is from Melbourne! What a coincidence! It really shows how small the world can be. Since both Tora and I have lived in Melbourne, we had a great time reminiscing about both Melbourne and Japan. Interestingly, this was our first visit to my friend's town, despite it being in the same prefecture as ours. The town was a quiet and lovely place. Most notably, it's famous for our favorite seafood, eel! My friend purchased some at a seafood market and grilled them over charcoal for us. It was the best eel we've ever had! We talked about our fantastic experience with the fresh eel and our memories of Melbourne, and we also discussed the nicknames of various seafoods.

Do you all like kanji? Did you know that the names of countries and cities around the world can also be written in kanji? Recently, I discussed the difficulty of writing the names of countries in kanji with students studying at a university in Japan. For instance, Italy is written as '伊' (I), America as '米' (Bei), Australia as '豪' (Gou), and Spain as '西' (Sei). Why is that? It seems some of these are derived from Chinese pronunciations. We also talked about foreign languages and katakana in relation to Japanese sounds. Japanese language has three types of characters: hiragana, katakana, and kanji, which makes it quite challenging. Truly, great job to everyone studying Japanese!"

2023-11-1933 minNihongo Toranomaki -Learn Japanese from Real conversation!!105. 天草への聖地巡礼。ロックバンドのルーツと歴史的な世界遺産をめぐる旅。Pilgrimage to Amakusa: A Journey Through the Roots of Rock Bands and Historical World Heritage Sites聖地（せいち）巡礼（じゅんれい）」という単語（たんご）を知（し）っていますか？英語（えいご）だとHolly Pilgrimageですが、日本人（にほんじん）が使（つか）う意味（いみ）は、アニメに出（で）てきた場所（ばしょ）や映画（えいが）やMVの撮（と）られた場所、好（す）きなバンドやアイドル、推し（おし）の生誕（せいたん）の地（ち）や活動（かつどう）してきた場所などを訪（おとず）れることを「聖地巡礼」といいます。今回（こんかい）、私（わたし）が好きなロックバンドの故郷（こきょう）である天草（あまくさ）に旅行（りょこう）してきました。天草といえば、今やそのバンドの聖地として有名（ゆうめい）ですが、実（じつ）はキリスト教（きりすときょう）が禁止（きんし）されていた時代（じだい）に、キリスト教徒（きりすときょうと）が隠（かく）れていた場所として歴史的（れきしてき）に有名で、世界遺産（せかいいさん）にもなっています。今回は聖地と世界遺産という２つの目線（めせん）から見（み）た天草について話（はな）しています。
Have you ever come across the Japanese term '聖地巡礼 (seichi junrei),' which translates to 'Holy Pilgrimage' in English? In Japan, this phrase has a unique nuance. It refers to visiting locations featured in beloved anime, such as the iconic Shibuya crossing and Takayama town in Gifu, well-known from the globally acclaimed anime movie 'Your Name.' It's not limited to anime sites; it also encompasses visiting the birthplaces or significant locations related to your favorite rock stars, idols, or biases. In this episode, I discuss my visit to Amakusa Island, the birthplace of my favorite band. While Amakusa is now renowned as a sacred site for fans of this band, it also holds historical significance as a refuge for Christians during the period when Christianity was banned in Japan. Amakusa is now recognized as a World Cultural Heritage site. We explore Amakusa from the dual perspectives of a 'holy pilgrimage' and its status as a world heritage site.

Do you lock your door even when you're at home? We got interesting research results. In Japan, whether or not people lock their doors seems to vary considerably depending on the region and age. In this episode, we discussed the security measures associated with this. Moreover, while in Japan, we have intercoms and peepholes, many countries abroad might not have intercoms, and some don't even have peepholes. While out for a morning run, I was struck by a car! Thankfully, I escaped with just a few scratches on my arms and some rib pain. However, my minor injuries led me to mishandle the situation post-accident. So, what were the consequences of my improper actions? In this episode, Tora and I discuss the significance of following the correct procedures after a traffic accident and I reflect on my mistakes. Since COVID restrictions have been relaxed, Japan has seen a surge in daily tourists. This influx has led to emerging challenges, particularly in popular tourist destinations. Issues include traffic congestion, a shortage of taxis, and garbage issues. In this episode, we explore these problems and propose solutions. Additionally, we discuss the upcoming major event, Halloween, which annually poses significant challenges in Shibuya. It’s been approximately one month since we announced the Origami Crane Project, and we have gathered over 11,000 cranes. After returning to Japan, Tora got an unexpected surprise. Just two days back home, and he was down with the flu! Turns out, the 'cold' I caught in Indonesia was actually the flu. Drawing from our personal experiences, we delved into the importance of international travel health insurance. We also touched on Japan's meticulous cleanliness habits and contrasted it with the global practice of wearing shoes indoors.

Tora, who was on a short-term study abroad program in Melbourne, Australia, has finally returned! I also spent roughly four weeks in Indonesia and returned to Japan on the same day. We're both finding it a little hard to adjust to being back in Japan after so long. In this episode, Tora shares his first experiences living abroad, including interactions with his host family, the high cost of living, and the different kinds of food, all from the perspective of a high school student.

Hello everyone! In this episode, we'd like to talk about our ongoing "Origami Crane Project." Today, coincidentally, marks the anniversary of the atomic bombing in Hiroshima. Why not join us in reflecting on war and nuclear weapons? This fall, Torakun will be going on a school trip to Nagasaki, another city that suffered from atomic bombing, and he plans to take 10,000 folded origami cranes with him as a wish for peace. We'll discuss the details in the episode, but we encourage all of you to take part in this project and take a step toward a world without war and nuclear weapons. We're looking forward to participation from people all around the world!

I took a solo trip to Tokyo at the end of May. In this episode, I talk about my surprise at Tokyo's sheer number of tourists. No matter where I went, I could only hear English, Korean, and Chinese being spoken. On the other hand, even at its tourist spots, Nagoya wasn't crowded with foreigners. From that comparison, we return to the topic of Nagoya's food and also discuss my family's unique food culture.

Japan is still freezing cold in February. Starting with the cold weather here, we talked about how units used in the US are different from those in Japan and other countries. In the second half, we talked about my recent desire to go to Antarctica. I don't really like traveling by ship, no, to be honest, I hate it. But trip by a luxury cruise ship might be great. And even though I hate the cold weather, it might be fun if I could go to Antarctica.

In Japan, filing a lawsuit is quite difficult. On the other hand, everybody knows that America is a litigious society. In the States, there seems to be lawsuits that would be incredible here in Japan, and it was super interesting!

I got infected the Covid at the end of November and the previous episode was released a week behind. I never ever imagined that I would get the coronavirus, and the symptoms were much worse than I expected, and actually it was painful. It's getting colder and colder every day in the Northern Hemisphere. Please be careful not to catch a cold, the coronavirus, or the flu, everyone.

Again, my niece, Myu-chan, talked with me about an American school.
She talked about a radical fight between girls happened in her school, which would never happen in Japan. Also she talked about a SNS problem that happened to a teenage girl. What surprised me the most was the penalty that those children received from the school. It was really shocking for me!
