చైత్ర 4 వ తరగతి చదువుతుంది. నాన్నంటే అమితమైన ప్రేమ.నాన్న ఏ పని చెప్పినా చిటికెలో చేసేది.అది చూసి వాళ్ళ అమ్మ కూడా సంతోషపడేది. సాయంత్రం పనికి వెళ్ళిన నాన్న ఇంటికి రాగానే కూతురుతోనే గడిపేవాడు.
కానీ ఒక విషయంలో మాత్రం నాన్న మీద కోపంగా ఉండేది చైత్రకు. నాన్న అంటే కొంచెం భయం కూడా ఉండడంతో నాన్నతో విషయం చెప్పకపోయేది.
నాన్న పనికి వెళ్ళినప్పుడు 'నేనే కుర్చీలో కూర్చుంటాను నువ్వు నాన్నతో చెప్పు' అని అమ్మతో గొడవపడేది చైత్ర.
'నాన్న వయసులో పెద్దవాడు కదా తల్లీ ! కింద కూర్చొని భోజనం చేయాలంటే నాన్నకు కష్టంగా ఉంటుంది' అని అమ్మ చైత్రకు సర్దిచెప్పేది.
'నాన్న వింటే బాధ పడతారు ఇంకా ఎప్పుడూ అలా అనకు తల్లీ?' అని అమ్మ ఎంత సర్ది చెప్పినా చైత్ర మనసులో నేనే కుర్చీ మీద కూర్చొని తినాలని అనుకునేది.
చైత్ర వాళ్ళ తాతయ్య, చైత్రను చూడడానికి పండ్లు తీసుకొని వచ్చాడు. పనికి వెళ్లిన నాన్న సాయంత్రం ఇంటికి రాగానే తన తండ్రి బాగోగులు అడిగి తెలుసుకున్నాడు. రాత్రి భోజన సమయంలో చైత్రతో పాటు నాన్న కూడా కిందనే కూర్చొని భోజనం చేయడంతో చైత్ర ఆశ్చర్య పడింది.
'ఎప్పుడూ కుర్చీ పై కూర్చొని తినే నాన్న ఈ రోజు కింద కూర్చున్నాడు' అని మనసులో అనుకుంది. తాతయ్య వారం రోజులు ఉండి వెళ్ళాడు. ఆ వారం రోజులూ నాన్న కింద కూర్చొనే భోజనం చేశాడు.
'అమ్మా! అమ్మా! నాన్న కింద కూర్చొనే భోజనం చేశాడు ఏంటి' అని అడిగింది.
'అమ్మా చైత్రా! మన ఇంటిలో భోజనం చేయడానికి ఒకటే కుర్చీ ఉన్నది. అది నీకు తెలుసు కదా!. తాతయ్య వయసులో నాన్న కన్నా పెద్దవారు. కింద కూర్చోలేరు. పెద్దలను గౌరవించడం మన సంప్రదాయం. మనకన్నా వయసులో పెద్దవారిని మనం గౌరవించాలి. అందుకే నాన్నగారు కింద కూర్చున్నారు ' అని అమ్మ చెప్పగానే తన తప్పు తెలుసుకున్న చైత్ర నాన్నపై ఉన్న కోపాన్ని విడిచిపెట్టింది.
ఇంటికి పెద్దలెవరు వచ్చినా తను లేచి వారికి కుర్చీ ఇచ్చి, వారిని గౌరవించేది. వారికి కావలసిన పనులు చేసి పెట్టి ప్రేమగా మాట్లాడేది. చైత్రలో వచ్చిన మార్పుకు తల్లి చాలా సంతోషించింది.

ఇల్లు అంటే ఒక అందమైన ప్రదేశం అది గుడిసె అయిన మేడైనా ఇంద్ర భవనమైనా ఇల్లు ఇల్లే... మనకంటూ ఒక ప్రశాంతతని, స్వేచ్ఛని ఇచ్చేది మన ఇల్లు మాత్రమే. ఎన్నెన్ని ప్రదేశాలు తిరిగి వచ్చినా ఎప్పుడెప్పుడు ఇంటికి వెళదామా అనిపిస్తుంది ఇంటికొచ్చాక తినే ఆవకాయ అన్నమో... పెరుగన్నమో ఇచ్చే ఆనందం మరిన్ని అధరువులు తిన్నా ఆ రుచి రాదేమో... అందుకే ఇల్లే కదా స్వర్గసీమ అన్నారు.
ఇదంతా ఎందుకు చెప్తున్నాను అంటే ఒకప్పుడు మనం పుట్టి పెరిగిన ఇళ్లు తరతరాల చరిత్రకు ఆనవాళ్లుగా ఉండేవి.. తల్లిదండ్రులు మనము ముందు తరాలు పుట్టి ఆ ఇళ్లల్లో ఆడుకొని విద్యాబుద్ధులు నేర్చుకొని తరలి వెళ్లేవారు పెళ్లిళ్లు చేసుకొని లేదా ఉద్యోగరీత్యా !
ఇక ముందు ముందు తరాలకి అలాంటి ఇళ్ళ తాలూకు జ్ఞాపకాలు ఎక్కువగా ఉండవేమో... ఎందుకంటే అపార్ట్మెంట్ కల్చర్ వచ్చాక ఒక 10 ఏళ్లు దాంట్లో ఉన్న తర్వాత మళ్లీ మరొక కొత్త గూడు కోసం ప్రయత్నం చేసి ఇంకా మంచి లైఫ్ అంటూ వెళ్లిపోవడం జరుగుతుంది ఏది ఏమైనా ఆనాటి మన తరం పెరిగిన ఇళ్ల జ్ఞాపకాలు ఎంతో అద్భుతం.
మా ఊళ్లో మా వీధిలో మా ఇల్లు కాస్త ఎత్తుగా ఉండేది వీధిలో మిగతా ఇళ్లన్నీ కొంచెం క్రిందికి ఉండేవి ఎంతో రాజసంగా ఉండే మాఇల్లు ఈ వాడకట్టును చూసే బాధ్యత అంతా నాదే! అనుకునేది పాపం! చాలా మంచి మనసు ఎందుకంటే పెంకులతో పరిచుకుని పచ్చని చెట్ల కట్టెలతో కట్టిన చక్కని ఇల్లు ..మట్టి గోడలతో ప్రకృతితో మమేకమైన మట్టి ఇల్లు... ఎంత చల్లదనం ఆ ఇళ్లల్లో అసలు వేసవి ఎప్పుడు వచ్చిందో తెలిసేది కాదు చలికాలం ఎప్పుడొచ్చిందో తెలిసేది కాదు, ఒక్క వర్షా కాలం మాత్రం తెలిసేది... ఎందుకంటే వర్షం పడ్డప్పుడు ఇంటి మధ్యలో గవాక్షం ఉండేది కదా దాని ద్వారా వచ్చే వానలు గచ్చులో పడి ఇల్లంతా తుంపర్లు తుంపర్లుగా నిండేది. అయినా ఎక్కువ చలి అనిపించేది కాదు... ఆ వర్షాన్ని చూస్తూ మనసాల ( మండువా)లో పడుకొని ఈ నీళ్లు ఎక్కడి నుంచి వస్తున్నాయా? అని ఆలోచిస్తూ అప్పుడప్పుడు మెరిసిన మెరుపులకి ఆకాశం కనబడుతుంటే నల్లని మేఘాలు కొంచెం భయం కలిగించేలా ఉరుముతుంటే ఏదో తెలియని ఆలోచనలు చుట్టుముడుతుంటే అలా చూస్తూ నిద్రలోకి జారుకున్న మధుర క్షణాలు ఎలా మరువగలం?..
