I am not a "good son"
I am not an "advocate"
When I try to protect my mother from the cruel system I am not an "advocate". To use that word is to pretend that the system works. But, the system of "care" for the elderly does not work. It is not a wonderful system where the rights of the elderly are protected by "advocates". Far from it! It is a rotten system where complaining can only go so far--because at its core, the purpose of the system is to provide profits for parasites, wealthy individuals who have more money than they need, and can never have enough money. And those...

I am not a "good son"
The barbarism which goes by the name "Elder Care"
Well, I guess they don't really call it "elder care"; but you know what I mean. The people my mother sees every day are mostly in a hurry to get in and out of her apartment as quickly as possible. That's not especially respectful. Nor, when it comes to the administration of medicines, satisfy the minimum requirements. It's not enough to drop off a collection of pills and run away. The "med. tech." should be sure my mother takes the medicines. She has clumsy, arthritic hands, and it's too easy for her to drop the smallest pill. ...

I am not a "good son"
Bullying by Care-givers OR bullying by a (one) care-giver?
Recently a care-giver refused to help my mother when it was time to use the bathroom. That was a violation of her employer's contract with my mother. It put my mother at risk. Furthermore, her manner was insulting. She bullied a 95 year-old invalid.

I am not a "good son"
How rotten the system is.
My mother has been living in a new Senior Home for about a month. The workers there are helpful and friendly. My experience is that the management tries harder to listen to me and communicate--harder than the previous place. It is, however, a much more costly place. The food is much better than the previous place. My mother is meeting people she can talk to. All that is good. But it is disappointing that certain basic problems haven't been fixed. In the Episode I've just recorded, I forgot one. There's a lag t...

I am not a "good son"
Twisted, ignorant, perverse souls: the managers of Lewisville Estates
I haven't got the energy to provide details, but today I provide a sort of impressionistic sketch of the perverse creatures who are considered to be "managers" at Lewisville Estates. They are not trustworthy individuals, and they do not tolerate criticism. No matter if the criticism is based upon truth, they attempt to rub it out and ignore it. And if they are forced to acknowledge it, they will not hesitate to use any sort of manipulation or dirty trick to get what they want. Because for them, the basic most primal impulse is a lust to control and dominate. OR, a...

I am not a "good son"
Gaslighting at Lewisville Estates in Lewisville, Texas
After more than two weeks, the managers have actually spoken to me about their neglect. They've tried to cast doubt upon my mother's words--not to her face; but without evidence of any sort the new Manager asserted that their schedule had been carried out by employees It was impossible that it was otherwise, he seemed to say. But, upon what evidence? He had absolutely NO EVIDENCE! Yet, he was casting doubt upon the words of my 95 year-old mother. IN fact, to back up what he'd asserted, he would need evidence from a camera. He didn't have that. ...

I am not a "good son"
Report of Abuse at Assisted Living
My 95 year-old mother is disrespected by her so-called "care giver". The care-giver won't let her sleep eight hours, but wakes her up, even though my mother says she wants to sleep more. The so-called "care-giver" is bossy and directive, does not listen to my mother. She speaks to my mother as if my mother were her (the care-giver's) employee. "Hurry up! I have other people to take care of." Unacceptable. Abuse, and torture--because sleep deprivation is torture.

I am not a "good son"
A review of last week, and a suggestion about how to make things better.
Why should basic services be available only on a 9 to5pm basis? That sounds insane to me. But, with my mother's emergency pendant, that was a problem. Ultimately, it meant that she was down, on the ground, with no help from anyone for ten hours--ten hours from 8pm until 6am. It doesn't have to be that way. In this episode I briefly review events of last week and make, what seems to me to be, an obvious suggestion.

I am not a "good son"
I am not a "good son".
People say I am a "good son". I cringe when I hear those words. If I were truly good, I would have planned for my mother's old age. I would have prevented her from falling into the clutches of the profiteers who are now sucking up all of her savings. No, I am a failure as a son; and my mother is paying for my failure.

Thoughts on a Sunday
I pause to reflect upon the cruelty of the system of "Elder-[don't]-Care". Moreover, it is hypocritical and ugly to notice the misrepresentation on every webpage and every Facebook page......As if everyone who is elderly spent their time having "fun", smiling, and enjoying the good times. A criminal misrepresentation of the cruel reality! And I didn't even mention the criminality of the food served in the dining room......

How Assisted Living Lets My Mother Down
You would think that if you pay for help, you should get it. My mother's experience has been that this is not true. The result is that she is neglected, and the neglect borders on abuse. It is not active abuse, but passive abuse. She's left to sit in a dirty diaper for an hour--even though she's buzzed for help two or three or more times.

Hey Tony! You're cheating these people!
My mother, a 95-year-old invalid, couldn't get to the dining room for breakfast. No one came to help. She pays to have people take her to the dining room. The Assisted Living place where she lives is permanently under-staffed.

I am so happy!
Planning my trip to the local hospital for a Covid test, I am so happy! The most direct route is shut down for repairs. I shall have to voyage through the slummiest part of town, where there are factories and roads with prize-winning potholes! How interesting! The people who work in those factories look like ghosts, often smell like cigarettes. And, on the same buses, you may see a starry-eyed young nursing student. LIke night and day, those two groups of riders. So, I shall waste my time riding the long...

Poor Son Notes
How the elderly are treated in the USA.
I recently spoke to my mother. She is 94 years old, and has severe arthritis. It is not comfortable when the AC blows cold air directly onto her. Her care-givers--who are 40 or 50 or 60 or more years younger than her--do not notice this or think about it. I attribute this is a broader indifference to the consumption of energy in the USA, and especially wasteful and unnecessary use of AC. (Alas, I see this starting to happen in Europe too....) When I lived in El Paso, Texas, I witnessed young people who would...

Washing Machines
Sometimes, it seems my life is filled with the experience of washing my clothes, by hand, or with a machine. And this seems to indicate a sort of flow, a pattern or rhythym in my life. I do not understand it, but here I recall some of my experiences--during a stay in Eastern Europe, whilst attending a Summer Seminar for College Professors, and currently. Is it really to much to ask for? To ask for the ability to choose the soap I wash my clothes with? Am I too demanding when I say I...
