Favorite Ambient Albums of 2025 Part 1
When end-of-the-year list season began I wasn't sure if I was going to do a favorite ambient albums list. I wasn't as locked into ambient as much this year as in the past. I spent most of my listening time in indie, jazz, and berlin-school. I had several ambient albums that would for sure make my list so I started with those and the next thing I knew - I had a list of 26 albums that are my 2025 favorites. Here are my favorite ambient albums of 2025, in alphabetical order: Alexander Knaifel - Chapter Eight ...

Episode #7 Grippa (Robin Laybourne)
For this episode, I took a drive to the other side of London to interview Robin (Grippa) Laybourne in his Greenwich recording studio. Grippa is a talented sound engineer, producer, and musician - releasing records under the moniker: The Hempolics (https://www.hempolics.com ). I have worked with Grippa for many years on various projects (Faithless, Dido, Dusted, etc.), and our conversation sheds light on his (sometimes unorthodox) working methods and studio expertise.

purely ambient
Last year at this time I did a mix called "simply ambient" which was a nice, straightforward mix of ambient tracks. This mix is a sort of follow up titled "purely ambient." There is no theme, no story being told by the music, no big concepts. Just ambient music, pure and simple. This might be the start of a series of mixes - utterly ambient, perfectly ambient, naturally ambient, totally ambient, etc. This would be allow me to get some of the tons of new music that I listen to every month into mixes without h...

Episode #5 Gareth McCorry
This episode is a little different. I discuss music and art with the artist Gareth McCorry - who happens to be my older brother. I've managed to rope him into collaborating with me on a project for my MA - in which we intend to interpret one of his paintings (with the help of Max/MSP/Jitter) into a piece of music. In this episode we discuss and describe a few of Gareths paintings. I've uploaded a supplementary video: https://youtu.be/YWwat8bGJos so you can visualise the work.

135: The Irish Side Of South Australia
Somewhere over the rainbow is a leprechaun waiting with a big pot of gold. Or not. However, South Australia was like that proverbial pot of gold when it became a sought after destination for Irish people fleeing their homeland in the 1800s.
