The biblical etiology (story of origin) for the name “Cain” associates his name with the Hebrew verb qny/qnh, “to get,” “gain,” “acquire,” “create,” or “procreate” in a positive sense. I thought that this weird doctrine about the Mark of Cain had long since been put to bed. Apparently there are still some people who say that the "Mark" is that God turned Cain black. Seriously.
