ഇന്നത്തേക്കാൾ കുറച്ചുകൂടി പുരുഷ കേന്ദ്രീകൃതമായിരുന്ന ഒരു കാലഘട്ടത്തിലായിരുന്നു കുമാരനാശാൻ സീതയെക്കൊണ്ടു ഭർതൃ വിചാരണ ചെയ്യിക്കുന്നത്. സീതയെ ചൂണ്ടി 'പാവയോ ഇവൾ' എന്ന് പുരുഷോത്തമനായ രാമനോടു ചോദിക്കാൻ ആശാനുമാത്രമേ അക്കാലത്തു ധൈര്യമുണ്ടായിരുന്നൊള്ളു. വെറുതെ ചോദിക്കുകയായിരുന്നില്ല. കാര്യ കാരണങ്ങൾ നിരത്തി, എവിടെയും സ്ത്രീയെ രണ്ടാമതാക്കി, അപ്രധാനയാക്കി, ഉപഭോഗവസ്തുവാക്കുന്ന നീതി ബോധങ്ങളെയും, പൊതു ബോധങ്ങളെയും പിടിച്ചു കുലുക്കിക്കൊണ്ടാണ് 'മാറ്റുവിൻ ചട്ടങ്ങളെ' എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ കവി, മലയാളി മനുസ്സുകളിലേക്കു ഈ കവിത കോറിയിട്ടത്. അതു മലായാളത്തിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ സ്ത്രീപക്ഷ കവിതയായി മാറി....

കഴിഞ്ഞ തവണ നാട്ടിൽ പോയപ്പോൾ, മാതൃഭൂമിയിൽ നിന്നും വാങ്ങിയ പുസ്തകങ്ങളുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിൽ അക്കിത്തത്തിന്റെ 'ഇടിഞ്ഞു പോളിഞ്ഞ ലോകം' ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. എവിടമാണ് ഇടിഞ്ഞു പൊളിഞ്ഞതെന്നറിയാൻ വാങ്ങിയതാണ്.
'സത്യപൂജ'-യിൽ തുടങ്ങി 'ഭാരതീയന്റെ ഗാന'-ത്തിൽ അവസാനിക്കുന്ന പതിനാറു കവിതകളുടെ സമാഹാരം. കുറെ കവിതകൾ വായിച്ചു മടക്കി വച്ചിരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. അപ്പോഴാണ് ജ്ഞാനപീഠം മലയാളത്തിലേക്കു വടിയുമൂന്നി കയറി വന്നത്. അപ്പോൾ ശരി, അങ്ങട് മുഴുമിപ്പിക്കാം എന്നു നിരീച്ചു.

Mozhi Podcastഗൂഢാലോചന നടത്തിയ പൗലോ കൊയ്ലോചില പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ നമുക്കു ലഭ്യമാക്കാൻ ഈ പ്രപഞ്ചം ഒരു ഗൂഢാലോചനപോലും നടത്തും. ചാരിറ്റി ഷോപ്പിലെ പുസ്തക അലമാരയിൽ ഒരു പഴയ പുറംചട്ടയുമായി എന്നെ കാത്തിരിപ്പുണ്ടായിരുന്നു ബ്രസീലിയൻ എഴുത്തുകാരനായ പൗലോ കൊയ്ലോയുടെ 'ആൽക്കമിസ്റ്റ്' എന്ന നോവൽ. പൗലോ കൊയ്ലോ എഴുതിയത് പോർട്ടുഗീസിൽ ആയിരുന്നു. ഹാർപ്പർ കോളിൻസ് പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച നോവലിന്റെ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് പരിഭാഷയാണ്, ഉള്ളിൽ ഒളിപ്പിച്ച ഒരു നിധിയുമായി എനിക്കു ലഭിച്ചത്. ലഭിച്ച നിധി എന്തെന്ന് അവസാനം അറിയിക്കാം. (വായനക്കാരെ കെട്ടിവലിച്ചു വാലറ്റം വരെ കൊണ്ടു പോകണ്ടെ!) സാൻ റ്റിയാഗോ എന്ന ഇടയബാലന്റെ നിധി തേടിയുള്ള യാത്രയാണ് നോവലിന്റെ പ്രമേയം. പ്രവചന സ്വഭാവമുള്ള ഒരു സ്വപ്നത്തിന്റെ പിൻപേ, നിധി തേടി, മരുഭൂമിയുടെ നിർദ്ദയ കാർക്കശ്യത്തിലുടെ കടന്നുപോകുന്ന സാൻ റ്റിയാഗോ നാമോരോരുത്തരും ആണെന്ന തോന്നൽ ഉളവാക്കും എന്നിടത്തുനിന്നാണ്, രണ്ടു ദശ ലക്ഷത്തിൽ അധികം വിറ്റഴിഞ്ഞ ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിന്റെ വിപണന രഹസ്യം ഒളിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഒരുപാടു 'മോട്ടിവേഷണൽ' പ്രസംഗങ്ങൾക്കു തുല്യമാണ് ഈ ഒരു പുസ്തകം.
നോവലിനുള്ള സമാന തലങ്ങൾ, നോവലിസ്റ്റിന്റെ ജീവിതത്തിൽ കണ്ടെത്തുന്നത് സാധാരണമാണ്. 1947 ൽ ജനിച്ച പൗലോ കൊയ്ലോ, തന്റെ നായകനെപ്പോലെ ക്ലേശഭരിതമായ യാത്രകൾ നടത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. തെക്കേ അമേരിക്ക, വടക്കെ ആഫ്രിക്ക, മെക്സിക്കോ, യൂറോപ്പ് തുടങ്ങി പലയിടങ്ങളിലും ദീർഘമായ യാത്രകൾ നടത്തിയ ശേഷമാണ് സാന്റിയാഗോ എന്ന ഇടയബാലന്റെ യാത്രകൾ ഈ ബ്രസീലുകാരൻ എഴുതിയത്.
ആൽകെമിസ്റ്റിലെ ഭൂമികയിലേക്കൊന്നു നോക്കാം. മധ്യധരണ്യാഴിയെ മെഡിറ്ററേനിയൻ കടലുമായി ബന്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ജിബ്രാൾട്ടർ കടലിടുക്ക് ഭൂമിയിലെ ഏറ്റവും തന്ത്രപ്രാധാന്യമുള്ള പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ്. ജിബ്രാൾട്ടർ എന്ന ചെറിയ പ്രദേശം, അന്തർദേശീയ തലത്തിലുള്ള സ്പെയിനിന്റെ നിരന്തരമായ സമ്മർദ്ദത്തിനു വഴങ്ങാതെ, ബ്രിട്ടൻ സ്വന്തമാക്കി വച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതിന്നു പിന്നിലെ കാരണവും മറ്റൊന്നല്ല. പതിന്നാലു കിലോമീറ്റർ കടലിടുക്കിനു വടക്കായി യൂറോപ്പിന്റെ കവാടമായ സ്പെയിനും, തെക്കായി ആഫ്രിക്കൻ രാജ്യമായ മൊറോക്കോയും പരിലസിക്കുന്നു. തെക്കൻ സ്പെയിനിലെ സ്വയംഭരണാധികാരമുള്ള വലിയ പ്രദേശമായ ആൻഡലൂഷ്യ പർവ്വതങ്ങളാലും, നദികളാലും, പുല്മേടുകളാലും അലംകൃതമാണ്. മദ്ധ്യകാല ഇസ്ലാമിക് ഭരണത്തിന്റെ ശേഷിപ്പുകൾ വഹിക്കുന്ന ഈ പ്രദേശത്തെ ഭൂരിപക്ഷവും ക്രിസ്തുമത വിശ്വാസികളാണ്. സാന്റിയാഗോയുടെ അലഞ്ഞുതിരിഞ്ഞുള്ള ഇടയജീവിതം ഇവിടെ ആരംഭിക്കുന്നു. ചെമ്മരിയാടിന്റെ രോമം വിൽക്കാനായി സാന്റിയാഗോ എത്തുന്ന 'താരിഫാ' എന്ന ചെറു പട്ടണം നോവലിലൂടെ നാം പരിചയപ്പെടുന്നു. ആൻഡലൂഷ്യയിൽ വച്ചു ലഭിക്കുന്ന സ്വപ്ന ദർശനത്തിനു പിന്നാലെ പോയ സാന്റിയാഗോ കടൽ കടന്നെത്തുന്നത് മൊറോക്കോയിലെ 'റ്റാൻഗിർ' എന്ന തുറമുഖപട്ടണത്തിലാണ്. സംസ്കാരങ്ങളുടെ സംഗമ ഭൂമിയാണ് തുറമുഖ പട്ടണങ്ങൾ. നോവലിലൂടെ കടന്നുപോകുന്ന വായനക്കാരൻ അതറിയുന്നു. ചൈനയോളം വലുപ്പമുള്ള ഭൂമിയിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ മരുഭൂമിയായ സഹാറയിലൂടെയാണ് സാന്റിയാഗോ പിരമിഡിനെ ലക്ഷ്യം വച്ചു തുടർ യാത്ര ചെയ്യുന്നത്. പൊടിക്കാറ്റുവീശുന്ന മരുഭൂമിയിലെ യാത്രയിൽ കലാപവും, കൊള്ളയും ഏതു നിമിഷവും ഉണ്ടാകാം. നക്ഷത്രങ്ങൾ വിരിഞ്ഞ അനന്തമായ ആകാശത്തിന് കീഴിലെ ആകസ്മിതകളിലൂടെ അവനെത്തിച്ചേരുന്ന മരുപ്പച്ച, യാതികർക്കു മരുഭൂമി ഒരുക്കുന്ന ദാനമാണ്. അവിടെവച്ചാണവൻ 'ഫാത്തിമ' യെ കണ്ടെത്തുന്നത്. ആൻഡലൂഷ്യയിൽ തുടങ്ങി, ഈജിപ്തിലെ പിരമിഡിൽ വരെ എത്തി നിൽക്കുന്ന യാത്ര മനോഹരവും, ഉദ്വഗം നിറഞ്ഞതുമാണ്. തന്റെ 'തീർഥാടനം' (Pilgrimege) എന്ന നോവലിൽ വിവരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ പൗലോ കൊയ്ലോ 500 ൽ അധികം മൈലുകൾ സ്പെയിനിന്റെ വടക്കു പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലൂടെ 1986ൽ യാത്ര ചെയ്തിരുന്നു എന്നതും ഇവിടെ പ്രസക്തമാണ്. പരിഭാഷ ചെയ്യേണ്ടത് എങ്ങിനെആയിരിക്കണം എന്നറിയാൻ വേണ്ടിയാണ് അവധിക്കാലത്തു വായിച്ചു തീർത്ത ഇംഗ്ളീഷ് നോവലിന്റെ മലയാള പരിഭാഷ നാട്ടിൽ നിന്നും വാങ്ങി വായിച്ചത്. പരിഭാഷയും നന്നായി ആസ്വാദിച്ചു. പക്ഷെ ഒരു വാചകത്തിൽ മാത്രം എനിക്കു നിരാശയുണ്ടായി. ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് പുസ്തകത്തിന്റെ ഇരുപത്തി രണ്ടാമത്തെ പേജിൽ ഇങ്ങനെ ഒരു വാചകമുണ്ട്. "And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it." അതു നാല്പതാമത്തെ പേജിലും, അറുപത്തി രണ്ടാമത്തെ പേജിലും ഒക്കെ ആവർത്തിക്കുന്നു. നോവലിലെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട വാചകം ഇതു തന്നെ ആണെന്ന് ഞാൻ കരുതുന്നു. ഡി സി ബുക്ക്സ് പുറത്തിറക്കിയ രമാ മേനോന്റെ പരിഭാഷയിൽ ഈ വാചകത്തിന്റ മലയാള പരിഭാഷ ഇങ്ങനെയാണ്. "ഒരാൾ എന്തെങ്കിലും നേടാൻ വേണ്ടി ആത്മാർഥമായി ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നുവെങ്കിൽ, ആ ആഗ്രഹം സഫലമാക്കാൻ ഈ ലോകം മുഴുവൻ അവന്റെ സഹായത്തിനെത്തും". ഞാൻ തെരഞ്ഞത് Conspiracy യുടെ മലയാള പദമായിരുന്നു. പദാനുപദ തർജ്ജമ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നതുകൊണ്ടല്ല. "ഈ പ്രപഞ്ചം നിനക്കു വേണ്ടി ഗൂഡാലോചന നടത്തും" എന്നു പറയുന്നതിൽ എന്തോ ഒരു പ്രത്യേക സൗന്ദര്യമില്ലേ എന്ന

കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം പഴയ ഒരു പാട്ടു കേട്ടു "രാത്രി മുഴുവൻ മഴയായിരുന്നു, മനസ്സു നിറയെ കുളിരായിരുന്നു..." ബിച്ചു തിരുമല എഴുതി, ജെറി അമൽദേവ് ചിട്ടപ്പെടുത്തി, യേശുദാസ് ആലപിച്ച മനോഹരമായ ഈ ഗാനം "എന്നും മാറോടണയ്ക്കാൻ" എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിൽ ഉള്ളതാണ്. സിനിമ ഞാൻ കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല. പക്ഷെ ഈ ഗാനം പണ്ട് ഒരുപാടു തവണ കേട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. സുനിലിന്റെ മുറിയിൽ നിന്ന്. തൃശൂരിൽ പഠിക്കുന്ന കാലത്തു ആദ്യം കുറച്ചുനാൾ സുനിലും, തോമാച്ചനും, വിനോദും, നാസറും ഞാനും ഒക്കെ ഒരു മുറിയിൽ ആയിരുന്നു. പിന്നീട് ഞാനും സുനിലും രണ്ടു മുറികളിൽ ആയി. എങ്കിലും ഞാൻ കതകു തുറന്നാൽ മുന്നിൽ കാണുന്നത് സുനിലിന്റെ മുറിയുടെ കതകായിരുന്നു. സുനിലിന്റെ പാട്ടു പെട്ടിയിൽ നിന്നും കുറെ നാൾ സ്ഥിരമായി ഈ ഗാനം ഞങ്ങളിലേക്ക് ഒഴുകി വരുമായിരുന്നു. എത്ര മനോഹരമായ ഓർമ്മകളാണ് വളരെ ശക്തമായി ഈ ഗാനം പഴമയിൽ നിന്നും വലിച്ചു കൊണ്ട് വരുന്നത്!

കൊല്ലം തീവണ്ടി ആപ്പീസിനു മുന്നിൽ നിന്നും പ്രൈവറ്റ് ബസ്സിൽ കയറി. സന്ധ്യ കഴിഞ്ഞ് ഇരുട്ടു പരന്നിരുന്നു. ബസ്സിൻ്റെ ഏറ്റവും പിന്നിലായി കമ്പിയിൽ തൂങ്ങി അഭ്യാസി ആയി നിൽക്കേ കേട്ടു, "നിൻ മണിയറയിലെ നിർമ്മല ശയ്യയിലെ നീല നീരാളമായ് ഞാൻ മാറിയെങ്കിൽ..."

പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട ജിബിൻ,
ജയയുടെ സഹപാഠികൾ ഇന്ന് ഒത്തുകൂടി; അഷ്ടമുടിക്കായലിൻറെ തീരത്ത്. അവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിൽ പെടാത്തവനായിരുന്നു ഞാൻ. എങ്കിലും അവരുടെ സൗമനസ്യം എന്നെ അവരോടൊപ്പം കൂട്ടി. സ്മരണകളുടെ തീരത്തുകൂടി ഒരു യാത്ര.
എല്ലാവരും ഗതകാലത്തിൽ നിന്നും ഓർമ്മയുടെ പൂക്കൾ പെറുക്കിയെടുത്തു. കായലിന്റെ തീരത്തു വശ്യമായ പൂക്കളങ്ങൾ തീർത്തുകൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നു. അതിന്റെ മനോഹാരിതയിൽ ധന്യമായിരുന്നു കായലോരം.
