Interessant ist, dass es wohl kein anderes Wort gibt, das international so verbreitet ist. Denn "okay" hört man nicht nur in den USA, sondern weltweit: in Südamerika, in der arabischen Welt und in Asien. Es ist damit eines der weltweit am häufigsten verwendeten Wörter überhaupt, und trotzdem weiß niemand genau, warum und wie der Ausdruck entstanden ist. Das macht das Wort so interessant, dass ein US-amerikanischer Sprachwissenschaftler, Allen Metcalf, darüber ein 200-seitiges Buch geschrieben hat "OK – The improbable story of Americas Greatest Word".
