“A Friar’s Account of the Philippine Revolution: Downscaling the Grand Narratives of the Revolution”
This short paper/talk attempts to employ microhistory in understanding an event close to the Bikolanos during the revolution period. It hopes to achieve this by revisiting a barely glimpsed friar’s written account (1898) and discover the rich texture and drama of a micro experience against a backdrop of big and generalized causal narratives of Philippine independence.
