Für die Ausreifung und Differenzierung von Th2-Zellen wird IL-4 benötigt. Es besteht die Hypothese, dass NKT-Zellen als Produzenten von IL-4 mitverantwortlich für die Verschiebung des Th1-Th2-Gleichgewichts in Richtung Th2-Immunantwort sind.
Diese Arbeit untersucht molekulare Unterschiede von NKT-Zellen zwischen Atopikern und Nicht-Atopikern im ersten Lebensjahr. Unter den 57 Probanden befanden sich 14 Atopiker; bei zwölf von ihnen wurde innerhalb der ersten drei Lebensjahre eine atopische Dermatitis diag-nostiziert, bei zwei Kindern lag allergisches Asthma bronchiale vor.
