Did you know the United States has a history of lynching Mexican-Americans in the Southwest states, from 1848-1925, largely? It relates to how this group continues to be socially lynched in the media today and feeds people 'believed to be' illegal immigrants into the industrial complex via immigration facilities (private prisons for alleged immigrants). Hands Off, Offred! (History and The Handmaid's Tale)
I forgot to add that a big issue I take with the Offred leading the charge against everyone hating Ofmatthew, the Black handmaid, is because at no point does anyone call Offred out for her treatment of Ofmatthew. Nobody challenges Offred for this mistreatment, nor call out that she clearly does the opposite for the white handmaid, Ofwarren/Janine. Many of us have been treated like that in real life, so that is another triggering aspect to it. Maybe I won't watch season 4 after all... Cultural Mixing & Miscegenation Legislation
While cultural mixing has happened since the beginning of time, there was a large push to stop these unions' potential to produce mixed-race populations. These anti-miscegenation laws in the Americas continued from the 17th century through the 20th century, but still perpetuate today. Race was created in the 17th century as a way to control movement of individuals in a caste-system that positions Indigenous and Black people as the bottom caste (meaning they receive the worst jobs, little to no legal protection, etc.).

Lincoln Ain't (Really) Ya Boy
The North is really no morally better than the South, and the same goes for the West. The Civil War was fought from 1861-1865, and while the North won the war, the South won the social war. They were able to maintain (federally illegal) racist legislation to its 'free' Black citizens; a legacy that has roots in the issues of today. We will also be talking about Lincoln as a politician, playing both sides of the fence, rather than as any true savior of American history.
