11 - Picnic Climbers take on the big screen
In this episode Nate and Mo take on the big screen!.. or at least, this is their take on the big screen... No big day of outdoor adventure feels complete until we crash on the sofa at the end of the day to watch a climbing/adventure film with a frozen pizza and a beer. In this episode, we have reviewed our favourite climbing/adventure films to help you decide where to start or what to watch next. There are so many amazing films available today, our pick of the bunch includes Valley Uprising (2014 - dir. Peter Mortimer & Nick Rosen...

Issue #16 - Rhythms
Yeah Lockdown/Covid/the World is pretty shitty a lot of the time so I decided to try and bring some joy and hope to people. This poem is a reflection of that (and serves as a reminder to myself). I also find a lot of "motivational" advice for people who are sad or a bit depressed super unhelpful. If you're unhappy, it's okay to just be unhappy for a bit. Clearly, your brain is telling you something you need to hear. Throw yourself a pity party, get super emotional and process whatever it is you need...

Issue #15 - Drama at the Beauty Council
Sometimes stories come out of you fully fleshed out and you know exactly what you're trying to do. This isn't one of those pieces. This one is a Game of Thrones-esque tale of power and conquest focused on discussions of beauty. Absurd, silly, and another cliffhanger ending. Whatever :D Hope you like it. - Nate --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/natechai/message

Issue #14 - The Poetry Game
During this period I was experimenting with more spoken word techniques and improve the performance aspect of my work. Some of the rhymes in this piece I think are pretty cringe ("poetry lame"?! C'mon) but overall happy with the message of the piece and some of the metaphors. Dull fact: this was the first piece that I recorded and applied post-processing on. I was amazed at how much better everything sounded with some EQ and compression. This is the piece that inspired this whole podcast. Words are here, feel free to comment. Thanks...

Issue #13 - Coffee Shop Stag [NSFW]
Yeah, someone from my writing group kept challenging us to write erotica...so this is my attempt (sorry Mum). With erotica being the third highest selling genre of ebooks on Amazon, I have often thought about throwing my hat into the ring and attempting to make some cash selling smut (under a nom de plume). Also, whenever I can't find a satisfying ending to a tale in the 20 minute time limit, I hastily add a cliffhanger ending. This is the first example of that. Hope you enjoy my filth. - Nate ...

Issue #12 - A Wish Comes True
WARNING TRUISM INBOUND: Life can be hard. We sometimes wish that things were easier. During the time I wrote this I had a lot of different projects that I was trying to complete and NONE were going according to plan. I guess this is a reflection on what happens if life becomes too easy. I'm a huge fan of Stoicism and one of the core tenants of that is to embrace the struggle and take value in the challenge. Sometimes we need to be reminded of the fact that (SECOND TRUISM INBOUND) the journey is as important...

Issue #11 - The New Gods of Planet Earth
In Stephen King's The Dark Tower there's this quote; "Because talent won't be quiet, doesn't know how to be quiet," he said. "Whether it's a talent for safe-cracking, thought-reading, or dividing ten-digit numbers in your head, it screams to be used. It never shuts up." All fine and dandy, but what about the people that are talented often allow themselves to become arrogant and conceited. As I rise through the ranks of my corporate job, I worry that I am doomed to the same fate. Hope you enjoy today's Nug. - Nate ...

Issue #10 - Conclusions
Have there already been enough poems written about mirrors? Apparently not. This one's an exploration of how we often our perception of ourselves is so limiting. I was also playing around with using rhyme rather than prose to segment the poem to give it a weird rhythm. Love hearing what you guys think, here's the Google Doc if you want to share your thoughts. Issue #09 - The Right Price
Recording this one I felt like it's a bit "edgy for the sake of being edgy" and I'm not sure what I'm trying to say. Maybe a basic (very) anti-consumerist piece about the nature of capitalism? Perhaps it's because I now have disposable income and realised that there is no upper limit to spending. Yeah, this one's pretty horrible. Issue #08 - Asshole Half the Time
This poem was inspired by years of being bad at first impressions and trying to accept that not everyone will like me. Also earlier that week I'd managed to massively offend a couple at a party I was at *face palm*. That's life though, as the saying goes "Go where you are celebrated". Issue #06 - God's Miracle Block
Yeah, this one's a weird one. Having started this whole project as a way of avoiding Writer's Block and now commenting on it, with the POV character (and therefore, surely me) being the monotheistic Christian God am I making some sort of egotistical comment on the nature of creation? Or is it using the absurd to highlight a point about content creation; are the parallels between "micro-miracles" and this podcast format too similar to ignore? These stories are so short, I've found them to be useful at telling allegories about life.

Issue #05 - Self-Esteem
So, I'm recording these about 2 months after writing them and it's interesting to analyse them with a more objective view. Without navel gazing too much, this poem was inspired by conversations with my friend Fergus about the nature of our jobs and why we do the work we do. There's a trend of work ethic in the poems I write. I'm always trying to be super hardcore about my hobbies and the content I output for work, it can be overwhelming sometimes...but that's why I like it. Here's the words (feel free to comment...

An attempt at writing a Stephen-King-esque horror piece featuring a mysterious book that no one can quite remember...
