Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala berfirman,
وَالَّذِينَ إِذَا فَعَلُوا فَاحِشَةً أَوْ ظَلَمُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ ذَكَرُوا اللَّهَ فَاسْتَغْفَرُوا لِذُنُوبِهِمْ وَمَنْ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَلَمْ يُصِرُّوا عَلَى مَا فَعَلُوا وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ.
“Dan orang-orang yang, apabila berbuat keji atau menganiaya diri sendiri, mengingat Allah lalu memohon ampun terhadap dosa-dosa mereka. Siapa lagi yang dapat mengampuni dosa, kecuali Allah? Mereka tidak meneruskan perbuatan kejinya itu, sedang mereka mengetahui.” [Ali ‘Imran: 135]
Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala juga berfirman,
وَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا أَوْ يَظْلِمْ نَفْسَهُ ثُمَّ يَسْتَغْفِرِ اللَّهَ يَجِدِ اللَّهَ غَفُورًا رَحِيمًا.
“Dan barangsiapa yang mengerjakan kejahatan dan menganiaya dirinya, (tetapi) kemudian memohon ampun kepada Allah, niscaya ia mendapati bahwa Allah Maha Pengampun lagi Maha Penyayang.” [An-Nisa`: 110]
