Robert Morris 宣稱於 1981 年 2 月 16 日信主重生。 同年 12 月加入 James Robison 的福音協會，擔任特約佈道家，開始參與全美巡迴佈道。 短短 5 個月內，他對 50 萬人講道，造成極大迴響。
1982年 Morris 因巡迴佈道關係，到 Cindy 家鄉參與教會活動並擔任營會講員。 與 Cindy 一家建立密切關係，經常到其家中住宿。 12 月 25 日：首次發生不當行為，Morris 利用私人空間接觸對方並要求保密。 當時 Morris 已婚，且有子女。
1983–1986 年 在長達 4 年半的期間，Morris 多次進行不當接觸。 雙方家庭持續密切往來，彼此開放家庭作為彼此住宿空間。 Morris 逐步取得更高的教會地位，成為 Shady Grove 教會的牧師。 遭指控期間，仍持續講道與擴大其教會影響力。 據 Cindy 敘述，Morris 在她 16 歲那年曾意圖與其發生更進一步的關係。
1987 年 3 月 在朋友 Glenda 鼓勵下，Cindy 向父母坦承多年遭遇。 她父親隨即向 Shady Grove 教會的主任牧師 Olen Griffing 舉報。 教會迫使 Morris 辭職，並未公開事件內容，僅內部處理。
1987–1989 年 Morris 表面上暫時離開講台，稱是為了「謙卑自己」和順服神。 根據他出版的書籍描述，他曾短期在汽車旅館擔任保全工作。 但實際上僅短暫離職約一個月，即回到福音協會辦公室擔任行政工作。 不到兩年，即恢復巡迴講道。
2000 年成立 Gateway Church，迅速成長為全美最知名、最具財力的教會之一。 Morris 成為美國福音派的重要領袖，形象正面、受人推崇。
2005 年Cindy 第一次嘗試聯繫 Morris，試圖尋求面對過去的對話與補償。 Gateway 長老 Tom Lane 亦涉及溝通過程。
2007 年Cindy 委託律師 Drummond 正式向 Morris 提出心理諮商費索賠（5 萬美元）。 Morris 的辯護律師回覆：「是不當關係，但非我方主動」，要求簽署保密協議並只願意支付 2.5 萬美元，遭 Cindy 拒絕。
2014 年Morris 在講道中提及自己年輕時「淫亂成性」，但未承認具體事件。
2024 年 6 月 14 日 Cindy Clemishire 在網路公開揭露自身遭遇，詳細敘述從 1982–1987 年的經歷。提出 Morris 的教會、領袖們長期知情卻隱瞞掩蓋。Gateway 教會內部發布聲明，稱「不清楚事件全貌」，接納 Morris 辭職。
2024 年 6 月 18 日 James Robison 與其福音協會發表影片與書面聲明，與 Morris 劃清界線，強調不知其過去行為，也未參與其復職決策。
2024 年 6 月 21 日Gateway 長老會公開聲明，聘請律師事務所進行全面調查。 Cindy 指控教會過去明知事實，卻反覆否認，並公開過去與長老們的通訊紀錄。
