Broadcasts live every Thursday at 8:00p.m. uk time on Radio Soapbox: http://radiosoapbox.comOn this first proper Thursday of 2026, I’m back in the “radio shed” with Eric in full flow, swapping storms, doors-on-one-hinge sagas and eighties memories that spiral from Michael Fish and the ’87 gale to yuppies, Filofaxes and the Guinness affair. We riff on music old and new (Chris Rea, ZZ Top, The Divine Comedy), the demise of craftsmanship, and why guilds, beauty and curvature still matter—from Hampton Court brickwork to Gaudí and Tower Bridge. We also touch on censorship tangles, copyright-safe jingles, an...

9-42 meets Paul Quinn
The one where we get to meet an axe-wielding Heavy Metal legend. If you are a follower of rock music, and you are also of a certain age, then you will be no doubt aware of the term New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (a phrase that was often referred to by the somewhat predictable but nevertheless jaunty acronym of NWOBHM). Anyway, it was a late seventies, early eighties phenomena and it was coined due to the combined impact of a group of UK bands that included Def Leppard's, Motorhead and the mighty Saxon.Paul...

Metabolic MD Episode 39 -Cholesterol or Blood Sugar Which One Should I Worry More About
Low Carb diets are great for preventing prediabetes and diabetes, and, of course, losing weight. For nearly 10 years Dr. Paul has helped patients “go low carb”, to reverse insulin resistance, and avoid the blood vessel diseases caused by high blood glucose (kidney failure, strokes, heart attacks, etc.). But low carb diets are almost always high in fat. Does eating low carb mean a higher cholesterol level will follow? Usually not, but occasionally a higher fat diet will result in a higher cholesterol level. Is that higher cholesterol then a problem? In this podcast Dr. Paul is joined by Lipi...

Being saved
1 Corinthians 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing (being destroyed), but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (NKJ) 1Peter 1:8 Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, 9 Obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. Nine Spanish culture shocks: Habits in Spain I can’t get used to
Nine Spanish culture shocks that I still can't get my head around, even after living in Spain for nearly six years. Here they are... 1. Volume control? According to the World Health Organisation Spain is the second noisiest country in the world after Japan. This would explain why several times a week I wish I had a universal mute button. Almost everywhere you go it’s loud. In Spain people tend to live on top of each other in densely packed apartments which has created a phenomenon known as 'radio patio'. The inner courtyards of apartment blocks act as perfect echo ch...

Travis and Paul were taking a little nap, so Jaccob and Nick do another quickplay episode and play a tiny little AEG game called Agent Hunters all by themselves. Agent Hunters, it turns out, is a nice little card counting game. It's really quick, it's cheap, and you'll probably enjoy it once or twice. It's like a candy bar at check out, but for game stores. Consequenga is a game about friendship, and breaking ice, and getting weird with your pals at parties. The Jenga pieces have numbers on the bottom, and when you draw a piece, you have to follow a rule matching your number. It's kind of like Captain Dickhead, or whatever you call it, only way more interesting. Travis gets pretty tipsy. Everyone reveals their deepest fears. Someone k...

We played the Back to the Future: An Adventure Through Time, and learned what "88 gigawatts of fun" feels like. It feels a lot like playing an awful cash grab of a board game, turns out. Do you remember all the times that Marty and Doc Brown murdered future and past versions of themselves and used their own time-blood as fuel for the Delorian? Because this game sure does use that as its primary mechanic. None of us could quite recall those parts of the movie, so I guess it's about time for a re-watch? F...

But maybe we should've just left it in the box. Travis, Nick, Paul, and Jaccob are now trapped in the Red Room.
