「多元」一詞源自Howard Gardner題出的多元智能理論，如同孔子所說的因材施教。但在教育上，多元一詞已被濫用和誤用，使許多家長和學生壓力倍增，以為多元就是要同時俱備所有各個面向的能力。其實應該是尊重個別差異，讓兒童適性發展。
孩子的不一樣是主動的、天生的，並不是家長刻意強逼出來的。家長要重視孩子多元的面向，也就是看重孩子與別人「不一樣」的地方，並從旁協助孩子發展那個部分，讓孩子呈現不一樣的美好。
多元不只關係到各種能力和學業，而是學習尊重，撇棄成見，看見別人與自己不同的美好。
雖然世界上有不同種族與文化，但同樣的是我們都有愛與被愛的需要。在多元的社會中，在看見別人的不同之前，我們應該先將自己定位，發覺自己的美好。
