Poornachandra Tejaswi stands apart with his dazzling prose, curiosity, wit, and originality. A literary rebel, explorer, agriculturist, photographer, and activist, Tejaswi’s modern voice — unlike that of his legendary father Kuvempu — blended science, folklore, and adventure. He wrote about everything from alien civilisations and quantum physics to the raw beauty of Malnad. His irreverent humour — rich in sarcasm and irony — wasn’t just comic relief, but a tool to skewer bureaucracy and superstition.Tejaswi bridged literature and science, making complex ideas thrilling and accessible. His novels — Chidambara Rahasya, Jugari Cross, and Karvalo — became bestsellers and literary milestones, mixing gripping stories with sharp socio-political insight.Nearly two decades after his death in 2007, his works remain strikingly relevant. His critiques of blind faith, inequality, and environmental destruction feel more urgent than ever.Inspiring readers to view the world with wonder, scepticism, and laughter, Tejaswi endures as a curious rebel with a pen — questioning, entertaining, and enlightening. In this episode of Noorakke Nooru Karnataka, host Varsha Ramachandra speaks to director-writer Dr. Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar and filmmaker Shashank Soghal (Daredevil Mustafa) about the enduring enigma that is Tejaswi.

Shakti x Bhakti - The Fearless Women Poets of India
Across centuries, Bhakti poetry has resonated through temples, streets, and the hearts of millions. But among these voices, some rise with a quiet defiance—those of women. In an era of rigid hierarchies, they dared to sing of love, liberation, and equality. Their devotional poetry, delicate yet resolute, were not mere expressions of piety but declarations of justice. From Akka Mahadevi’s ascetic surrender to Mirabai’s unwavering defiance, from Sule Sankavva’s fearless faith to Janabai’s poetry of self-worth, these extraordinary women carved a space for themselves in a world that sought to silence them. दिल की आवाज़ें | Sounds of the Heart | EP 3 of Likhe Jo Khat Mujhe | Radio Azim Premji University
____________ In Dil Ki Awaazein (Sounds of the Heart), a mother shares her struggles with her son, a gender studies professor, offering a personal perspective on societal identity. She highlights the gap between academic theories and lived realities, reminding him, “You study gender; we women live it.” As children grow, they often stop listening to their parents, silencing them unintentionally. In this poignant episode, the mother breaks that silence—chiding yet understanding. She urges her son to keep learning, just as she continues to evolve. What has eight legs and might have just had a husband for dinner? Most likely a spider. Despite its wild and boisterous nature, WWE’s over-the-top theatrics have found a dedicated following among Indians raised on Bollywood potboilers and saas-bahu soap operas. India has a long history of formal wrestling in the akhadas, but wrestling as branded entertainment took off in the 1990s with the advent of satellite cable TV after econom...

The distinguished anthropologist Irawati Karwe wrote, “I found a new definition of Maharashtra: the land whose people go to Pandharpur for pilgrimage.”Pandharpur, near the city of Solapur, is a sacrosanct destination for the Varkari path within Hinduism, centred around the worship of the deity Vitthal or Vithoba, a form of Vishnu. The Varkaris are a part of the Bhakti movement, a spiritual tradition characterised by the immersive loving worship of a chosen deity. The word ‘Varkari’ means “one who performs the vari”— vari in Marathi refers to the annual 21-day pilgrimage to Pandharpur, which devotees of Vi...

Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya’s birthday is observed as Engineer’s Day in India. Born on September 15, 1861 in the village of Muddenahalli about 60 km from Bengaluru, Visvesvaraya was told that he was of poor health and would not live long. Kayakave Kailasa
Emerging in 12th-century Karnataka, Vachana Sahitya gave voice to the Sharana movement. The Sharanas were ardent devotees of Shiva, spreading their message through vachanas, verses composed and sung in simple Kannada, which were infused with profound thought. They advocated social equality and rejected caste, challenging Sanskrit dominance and the prevailing literary and social norms. Many of the Sharana poets came from marginalised groups. Their vachanas criticised rituals and hierarchies, emphasising a personal connection with the divine. While saints like Basavanna, Allama Prabhu, and Akka Mahadevi are the most prominent names of the movement, the tradition was equally...

Kathauti Mein Ganga
We journey to the ancient, timeless city of Varanasi, its ghats washed by the river Ganga, to find ourselves enmeshed in the warp and weft of Kabir’s verse. Kabir the weaver venerates the Almighty without question, but equally, he scorns the hollowness of rituals in society that clutter the path to this sacred union. His poetry is simple and accessible, yet pungent with wit and incisive with insight. And though provocative, it resounds with wisdom and truth of a kind that many of his contemporaries, even his detractors, dared not confront.Within this city of brick an...

In this bonus episode, we travel in time to Bombay of the 1800’s. The opium trade had brought copious wealth to the city. Among those who had cashed in were prominent Parsi and Gujarati merchants who set up textile mills with the profits. When the cotton trade soared, the textile tycoons looked for other avenues to invest their money. They financed the film industry. By the turn of the century, cinema halls had mushroomed all over the city and the industry attracted actors, dancers, singers and writers. Songs were an inseparable part of these films, piggybacking on the tradition of...

As we explore the histories of constitutional ideas through Bhakti poetry, we find a striking resonance in the values underpinning the Constitution of our modern republic. We begin our journey in 20th century Bombay, where the film industry has created a new public sphere for expression by artists, lyricists and songwriters, who speak to a pan-India audience through the immense reach of this new medium. This town near Mysuru beside the Kapila river is famous for the Srikanteshwara temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, where devotees pray to be cured of disease. The temple earned the reverence of Tipu Sultan, who hailed the deity as ‘Hakim Nanjunda’ for miraculously curing his royal elephant's eye ailment. A variety of banana, Nanjangudu Rasabaale, is also named after the town.
