Memorials in Germany raise questions about how to remember Holocaust victims
David Bliss grew up hearing stories about his great-aunt Bertha, a once-energetic woman who ran her own shop in the small German town of Husen. But he knew very little else about her until he found a high school in Husen, which for decades has had students research the lives of Holocaust victims. Bliss' journey to memorialize his great aunt unearthed debates about such memorials in Germany, including those over the "Stolperstein," or "Stumbling Stone" project. Rebecca Rosman traveled to Husen and Munich to tell this story.

Surf's up on the Eisbach River
It may be hundreds of miles away from any coastline, but the Bavarian capital of Munich is home to one of the world’s most iconic — albeit dangerous — waves. The Eisbach wave apparently appeared overnight in 1972 after the city submerged several concrete blocks under a bridge to block the river’s strong current. This created an accidental constant flowing wave effect — one which experienced surfers immediately seized upon. Reporter Rebecca Rosman has the story from Munich. This story originally aired on May 23, 2024.

These figures are worrying policymakers in a country already grappling with a shrinking population, low birth rates and a loneliness crisis. But while traditional dating is on the decline, some young people are looking for love and companionship in unconventional places. From Tokyo, Rebecca Rosman reports.
