So Very Wrong About Games
#352: Ascending Empires: Zenith Edition
I was donating blood while wearing my Transformers Converse shoes, and two different phlebotomists commented positively about them. "We have won the cultural argument," I said, deliberately burying the lede that demographic destiny is probably the chief cause. I suspect that the same forces explain increased societal acceptance of toys, and board games are not immune. Creature Caravan (Saturday Review)
The land of Arzium is facing a new threat. Ember Zombies have left their volcanic lands to the north and are walking through the previously peaceful lands that we call our home. You can easily recognise them with their charcoal bodies. Yet, there is hope. The city of Eastrey offers a safe haven for the creatures that are threatened by the malicious fire fairies. Everyone must make their way across deserts and plains, over mountains and through deep canyons and seek refuge, picking up other wandering creatures along the way, to join their Creature Caravan by Ryan Laukat from...

Where do board games go when they die? Better yet; can they go anywhere other than a recycling center? I guess the nicest way to put this is – do games have a soul? Better yet, what gives a game "soul?" What makes a game feel "soulful" versus "soulless?" Those are just some of the questions that Evan, Robert and Steve tackle on this week’s show! #185: What Makes a Game Worth Recommending?
All right, we need to talk about Sokka. Another staple of kid's shows is often The Annoying One. I don't know why, but they're often there. Steven Universe had Ronaldo, but they knew to use him sparingly. Sokka is so aggressively obnoxious in the first two episodes it is a miracle anyone makes it to episode three. He could have just been the complainer, but additionally his monumental and gratuitous misogyny is so bad that one wonders what Suki (an awesome character) ever saw in him. Sure, he gets better, but always in my mind the Early Days Sokka looms...
