We Return to Bodibe Village, to hand over our Mandela Day project
57 kilometres south of Mafikeng in the North West, lies a village called Bodibe. It's steeped in history as it's where the Anglo Boer War was fought between 1899 and 1902. Today, the village has a population of about two-thousand people. But residents struggle with poor water supplies, high unemployment and an increased prevalence of HIV / AIDS infections. The elderly here often go hungry due to the extreme levels of poverty. But three times a week, volunteers of the Retshwenyegile Relief Givers' Soup Kitchen meet in Bodibe Village to serve meals mainly to the sick and elderly in the area. SAfm selected this...

Is there an education crisis in the Eastern Cape?
South Africans are told that education is the key to lifting themselves out of poverty - but children are on the streets of Port Elizabeth today. Over fifty schools are just empty shells, wrapped in barbed wire, and surrounded by gangs, drugs, unemployment, alcoholism and teenage pregnancy in a community with endless hope. Last year, the matric results bore witness to the crisis. The pass rate dropped for the second consecutive year and remains the lowest in the country at under 60%. On this SAfm Special Broadcast at Sanctor High School in Port Elizabeth, we are joined by a panel of...
