非虚构创作系列公开课@腾讯谷雨腾讯谷雨融媒体跨国报道专题《新留洋时代》复盘 第3集：车怡岑郝昊王怡波扬深来赵一昕本集嘉宾：车怡岑 郝昊 王怡波 杨深来（腾讯谷雨实验室《新留洋时代》报道团队） 顾卉妮（筑明教育创始人，哥伦比亚大学新闻学院毕业，曾任职纽约时报） 主持人：赵一昕（哥伦比亚大学教育学院传播学&教育学硕士毕业）本集讨论到的文章原文刊载如下：新留洋时代：他们为何花上百万送孩子到美国上高中为了去美国上高中，孩子们经历了惨烈的“丛林游戏”：备考、考试、申请、面试……成功者只有少数，在丰厚的物质基础支撑的前提下，他们踏上漂洋过海的求学生涯。迎接他们的，是陌生的文化、社会和国度。在压力和青春期的情绪波动之中，他们经历着不一样的高中岁月。撰文/ 高 龙摄影/ 吴家翔视频/ 车怡岑编辑/ 王怡波三年前那次美国高中申请面试，Cindy感觉不错。撇开激烈的升学竞争氛围，这像一次梦幻之旅。布鲁克斯中学位于波士顿北部北安杜佛小镇。学校在山上，毗邻一个一望无垠的大湖，周围是广袤的田野和森林。在北京住惯的Cindy，感觉像“进村了”：环境少了嘈杂，晚上能看见星星。面试Cindy的是布鲁克斯中学的男队网球教练。由于Cindy也打网球，两人聊得投机，聊了40分钟，大部分时间在谈网球。申请程序结束后，Cindy等待布鲁克斯中学的录取通知书。但次年三月，它没有来。北京，中关村丹棱街，留学广告在这里随处可见。出国动机Cindy十六岁了。小学六年级那年，她母亲第一次带她进了一所国际学校。母亲想让她将来出国读书。她喜欢上了这所国际学校的环境。从此，出国成了她预设的轨道。国际学校是出国预备学校。那里的课程设置和国内公立中学差别很大，因此学生们几乎无法退回到公立学校。 一些从小就上国际学校的孩子，甚至不会写中文。 国际学校是全英文式教育。刚开始上学，Cindy上课听不懂，作业不会写，随身带着一个电子字典。一年后，她的英语慢慢熟练起来了。旁边好多同学出国上学。初二那年，Cindy也开始了美国高中（以下简称“美高”）的申请准备工作。Cindy与Cindy的家庭推动相比，今年刚入读美高的Steve出国动机更像“顿悟”。像大多数入读美高的国内孩子一样，Steve成长于北京一个优越的家庭。15岁的Steve学冰球已近十年，是校队成员，多次出国参加比赛。在出国前的一天，我们在家中见到了Steve。钢琴老师刚刚辅导完他的钢琴。房间里摆放着一个微型的篮球架，显示他的运动热情。母亲刘菲（化名）拿出她收藏的厚厚的一沓他的获奖证书，多数是Steve所在冰球队国际比赛的奖励。说起儿子所在的中学校队，刘菲充溢着自豪。Steve多次参加美国夏校。最早的那一年，他12岁。真正让Steve产生出国读书目标的，是2015年7月夏，美国阿姆赫斯特学院的Great Book读书营。学完后，Steve得到了读书营发的一本电子书，储存了很多英文书目。这年回国后，Steve迷上了飞盘。最重要的改变是，这次夏校颠覆了Steve对美国学生的印象。他第一次感受到，美国大学生学习非常勤奋，与“美国学生学习轻松”的国内传闻完全不同。他确立了自己出国读书的目标。2016年，Steve加入了考托福的行列。SteveCindy和Steve出国的时间段，正是在美中国学生数迅猛增加的时期。国际教育协会为一家总部位于纽约的独立非营利机构。据该机构统计，2013年，在美国的中国中学生共23562人，占国际生的比例为32.3%。2016年，中国学生增加到34197人，占国际生的比例达到42%。中国已成在美国际生最主要的输出国。2017年8月，国际教育协会发布了调查报告《全球少年迁移——美国国际中学生趋势，2013—2016》。据该报告，2013年到2016年，在美中国中学生增加了48%，远超总国际生的增长率。后者增长率是12%。该报告将中国中学生数增长的原因概括为“强大而增加的中产阶级”，以及“送孩子到国外接受优质教育的兴趣”。据该报告，在美国际生读美国中学的普遍动机是，在美国中学获得的经验能提高他们申请美国大学的竞争力。备考之路2017年暑假，Cindy在中关村一家培训学校兼职。这是她上过两次的出国培训学校，她和以前的留学顾问赵老师早已熟络，两人形同姐妹。在这所培训学校，励志氛围弥漫。一个走廊一侧，分布着一列小教室。每个小教室供一名学员做题练习。一间教室的墙上写着莎士比亚的句子：Be great in act, as you have been in thought.（展开伟大的行动，像你想的那样） 在一个房间的磨砂玻璃上是励志句子：勇敢的孩子往前走。 各个小教室都以西方经典作家的人名和书名命名，英文写着：马克·吐温、杰克·伦敦、海明威等。所有的装饰构成一种略带灰暗的场域，并最终暗示两场直指人心的英语考试：托福和SSAT（美国中学入学考试）。2015年到2017年，在该机构参加出国培训的中学生有近四千人。“出国之前的标准化考试费和申请费，每个家长的投入在30万到40万。”赵老师估算。中关村的这所培训学校对Cindy有特殊意义。在这里，她遇到了她的前男友。在教育的维度，这所学校则弥漫着学生们青春期的彷徨和出国流水线上的苦闷。第一次申请布鲁克斯中学被拒后，Cindy第二次被母亲送进了这所培训学校。这一次，她受到母亲颇为严厉的要求。她母亲要求学校老师写下Cindy每一天详细的行为报告，包括她每小时在干什么。执行监督任务的是赵老师。赵老师从事督导工作，遇到过很多不堪重负的学生。“孩子们要做很多的督导内容，看书，做听力，然后再上课，做作业。一些小孩接近崩溃。我见过小女孩，我们俩抱着哭。”赵老师回忆。 有的女孩子学到断经，真的很累！ 此前，一个面对巨大作业量的男孩，在教室里突然崩溃，把一根中性笔折断，然后嚎啕大哭。“他哭得特别凄惨。他说老师我坚持不下去了，‘不只是我对我自己的要求高，我妈妈对我的要求也高。’”赵老师此前还从电梯口拽回来过一个孩子。这个孩子压力很大，想放弃学习。这所位于北京繁华地段的学校，虽承载了孩子们非常复杂的心理体验，但它是教育链条上极重要的一环。中国初中——美国高中——美国大学，这个链条离不开培训学校和它所制造出的标准化考试成绩。2018-03-1014 min
