‘ఆరోగ్యమే మహాభాగ్యం’ గోడమీద ఉన్న ఆ బోర్డు, మన దగ్గర ' డబ్బు ' ఉండటం కంటే ' ఆరోగ్యం ' ఉండటమే పెద్ద సంపద అని చెబుతున్నట్లుగా ఉంది. ఆయుర్వేద ఆసుపత్రి వరండాలో తమ వంతు కోసం వేచి చూస్తున్నారు జలజ, జయకర్. ‘నెమ్ము’ [ ఆస్తమా లాంటిది] సమస్య కోసం జలజ వచ్చింది.
ఒకపేషంట్ డాక్టర్ గారి గది లోపలకెళ్ళున్నారు. నర్సు వచ్చి జలజా వాళ్ళ ఎదురుగా కూర్చున్న ఒకావిడను లోపలకు వెళ్ళిన వాళ్ళు చూపించుకుని వచ్చిన తరువాత డాక్టర్ గారి దగ్గరకు వెళ్ళమనీ, ఆ తరువాత జలజను వెళ్ళమనీ, చివరలో ఆ చివర కూర్చున్న ఒక పల్లెటూరి జంటనూ వెళ్ళమంది. ఆ జంటలో ఉన్న అమ్మాయి ‘మేము ముందుగా వచ్చాము కదా, మేమెందుకు చివరలో వెళ్ళాలి?’ అని అంటూ ఉండటం, ‘వాళ్ళు ఫోన్ లో నిన్ననే అప్పాయింట్మెంట్ తీసుకున్నార’ని నర్స్ చెప్పడం విన్నది, జలజ.
నర్స్ వెళ్ళిపోయిన తరువాత కూడా ఆ అమ్మాయి ’మేము వేరే ఊరినుంచి వచ్చాము. మాకు ఇదంతా తెలియదు. ఫోన్ చేస్తే ముందుగా పంపుతారా?' అని కొంచెం గొణుక్కుంటూనే ఉంది. వాళ్ళకు అప్పాయింట్మెంట్ గురించి అవగాహన లేనట్టుంది. ఆ మాటలు వింటున్న జలజ ‘పోనీలే వాళ్ళనే ముందు వెళ్ళమందాము’ అనుకొని “సరే ముందు మీరే వెళ్ళండి. మేము ఈ ఊరి వాళ్ళమే. మీ తరువాత మేము వెళతాము” అని ఆ అమ్మాయి తో అంది. అప్పుడు ఆ అమ్మాయి సంతోషంగా “సరేనమ్మా” అంది.
అన్నట్లుగానే లోపల పేషెంట్ రాగానే, ఆ అమ్మాయి వాళ్ళు వెళ్ళారు. అప్పుడు జలజ కు ఫోన్ రావడంతో జలజ ఫోన్ తీసుకొని మాట్లాడుతూ బయటకు వెళ్ళింది. జలజ అటు వెళ్ళగానే జలజకు ఎదురుగా కూర్చున్న ఆవిడకు కోపమొచ్చింది. “ఆవిడ వెళ్ళాల్సిన టైంకు కావాలంటే వేరేవాళ్ళను పంపుకోమను. అంతేగానీ నేను వెళ్ళవలసిన టైంకు వేరే వాళ్ళను వెళ్ళమని ఆవిడెలా చెప్తుంది? ఇంట్లో నా కెంత ఇబ్బందిగా ఉందో ఆమెకు తెలుసా? ఇక్కడినుంచి నేను వేదాయపాళెం వెళ్ళాలి. మేము నిన్ననే అప్పాయింట్మెంట్ తీసుకున్నది ఎందుకు?“ అంటూ ఆవిడ కోప్పడింది జయకర్ వైపు చూస్తూ. జయకర్ కు ఏం చెప్పాలో తెలియలేదు.
కొద్దిసేపటికి జలజ లోపలికి రావడం, ఆ అమ్మాయి వాళ్ళు డాక్టరుగారి గదిలోపల్నుంచి బయటకు రావడం, జలజ ఎదురుగా వున్న ఆవిడ లోపలి కెళ్ళడం జరిగింది. జలజ రాగానే జయకర్ జరిగింది చెప్పబోయి హాస్పిటల్ లో ఎందుకులే అని ఆగిపోయాడు. జలజ కూడా చూపించుకున్న తరువాత ఆటోలో ఇంటికెళ్లిన తరువాత జరిగింది చెప్పాడు.
“అయ్యో. ఆవిడెందుకు కోప్పడటం? పాపం వాళ్ళు పల్లెటూరి వాళ్ళు కదా, మళ్ళీ వాళ్ళు ఊరెళ్ళాలని, అలా చెప్పాను” అంది జలజ. “అమ్మా, సమాజ సేవకీ. ఇంకొకరి విషయంలో జోక్యం చేసుకుంటే ఇదుగో ఇలాగే వస్తాయి మాటలు“ అన్నాడు జయకర్. ఒక నిముషం తరువాత మళ్ళీ
“ఆమె నిన్ను అలా విసుక్కోని మాట్లాడుతుంటే నాకు కూడా బాధనిపించింది. నువ్వు చేసింది మంచి పనే. కానీ అందరూ మనలాగా ఆలోచించరు కదా. అందుకని మనం ఏదైనా చేయాలనుకుంటే చేద్దాం. అంతేకానీ వేరేవాళ్ళను కూడా చెయ్యమనటం మంచిది కాదు” అన్నాడు. జలజ దిగులు పడింది ‘ఒకరికి మంచి చేస్తే తనకు చీవాట్లోచ్చాయ్’ అని. ‘పోనీలే, ఆ అమ్మాయి సంతోషపడిందిగా. అది చాలు’ అనుకుంది.
