My friend Eric Nevin's and his family experienced a school shooting first hand when on May 7, 2019, one occurred at the STEM School Highlands Ranch where all three of his children attend school. The charter school is located in the Denver suburb of Highlands Ranch. One student, Kendrick Castillo, was killed when he engaged the shooter in an attempt to stop him.
