Religion: To speak or remain silent.
As an agnostic atheist, do I have a moral imperative to speak to Believers about their faith? Or would I just be proselytizing my own beliefs?

It isn't futile.
Famous last words: "we've always done it that way." There's a sense of helplessness or feeling stuck floating around. Some cling to the idea that change is impossible. Or if it can occur, it has to happen a particular way. But what about breaking the mold? What drives us? Can we use this to move off the game board, outside the playing field to create change? AI-generated art: What is art? Creativity? Imagination?
Computers, more specifically Artificial Intelligence, have made a pretty significant stride, recently. Christie’s is auctioning off the first AI generated piece of art today, 25 October 2018, for between $7,000-$10,000. This sparks many questions! What is art? What does it mean to be creative? To use imagination? If AI can develop creativity and imagination, this significantly decreases areas where humans can compete competitively. Doesn’t it? Hierarchies & Patriarchy
I read an intriguing theory for the basis of patriarchy, that seems to make sense. But if it’s true, there are some interesting observations in and around this framework. Why are you kind? What motivates you?
Seth Godin highlighted three motivators for learning in a recent Akimbo podcast. Although it may be debatable, whether being kind to each other is something we need to learn or something we already know how to do, I wonder if these motivators play a role in whether we actually behave kindly or not. Can this list of motivators be expanded upon? Or rather, must we be motivated to be kind? The effects of a rutted education system.
From a young age we are trained to be cookie cutter workers, to give correct answers, to be compliant, and to follow the rules. The longer we're in the system or the more we seek to fit in, to be accepted or approved of, the more this system narrows our perspectives and squashes our innate curiosity, creativity, and imagination. I recollect my first impressions of Raj, a stranger in a random Starbucks, and the surprising and fascinating conversation that followed about the cultural and economic history of India. These communities didn't simply trade. They essentially served/altruistically gave to each other and their personal roles. Change the rules; change the game.
With the constant influx of information & the set rules of government and rules of social engagement, we've fallen into default patterns of operation. We assume that things are done a certain way because someone else has told us so or because they've "always" been done that way. We're left feeling frustrated and impotent, because some have gamed the political system which has affected us socially, as well. Define ‘time’ & shape your world.
We seem to have an obsession with time. We’ve built our lives around whether we believe we “don’t have enough” or have “plenty.” We’re so focused on measuring time, we’ve forgotten why it’s vitally important to us. We’ve lost sight that it’s actually ancillary to everything else. Whether it’s about the concept, the definition, how much or how little, to what end is time our focus? Time is another one of those words. Depending how you personally define it, can shape your entire outlook. Email: seekingplumbpodcast@gmail.com ShowNotes: bit.ly/2FdAkIT Music: "Snowflake" by Bor...

Digging deeper, the idea of success permeates every layer of our psyche — individually and culturally. It’s reflected in our language, how we interact, & how we deem each other worthy. Have We Reduced Ourselves To Common Computers?
When we’re children, we spend those initial awkward years exploring and learning, but as we mature we condition ourselves to choose from pre-fab menus or patterns, to give appropriate responses, to attempt to fit in. Dissecting a scene…
I do enjoy the SciFi & Fantasy genres, but I like the stories I consume to at least make some sort of sense. This is true of any fictional genre, really. So, when script writers get lazy, it's particularly annoying. 😂 I dissect a recent scene from Blindspot that was all kinds of ridiculous.

The stories we tell…
In Yuval Noah Harari's book, Sapiens, he talks about the start and power of stories. Not just the expected ones of myths, legends, and gods, but the stories created to unite societies. We believe in so many fictions without much thought. Why do we buy into and accept them, and what does it take to create such a powerful story?

Quantum Entanglement & More…
My head is spinning with questions and questions that lead to more questions. Scientists have found a way to reverse the (thermodynamic) arrow of time? What?! This was the jumping off point into learning more about quantum entanglement and wondering about the implications & possibilities. Deep into various rabbit holes with so many questions; I barely scratched the surface!

Tackling my expectations...
In attempting to deviate in how I see and think, I've been making a concerted effort to identify and evaluate my assumptions. It's a work in progress to complexify them, and likely one I will continue to rinse/repeat throughout my life. Or at least, that's my plan. Hear a little on my thought process & a call from #PositiveVibes regarding his latest experience in this area.

❓-ing Assumptions & Bubbles
In real life, we have some amount of room for exploration and self-discovery. We can physically move in and out of social groups, situations, etc., and broaden our horizons as we learn and course correct. Is the same entirely true of our online experience? Does it matter?

The skill of asking "why."
Is there a good or not so great way of asking "why?" Or put another way, should we consider formulating better questions? If so, why? If we determine there is value in this, where and how do we begin? Via healthy doubt and challenging our assumptions.

Free Will or Brain's Puppet?
The idea of free will or fate/predestination/determinism is something we sometimes consider, but ideas like fate are concepts/forces that we presume exist outside us. If we don't have free will, what if what IS responsible for our decisions and actions is still out of our control but is WITHIN us? • Including a few calls from MoMacAttack & Dewuan And Only.

The blindness of the favoured.
The favoured or privileged are often blind to their status and advantages, and how their life experience is different and affects those around them. I dip into a few hot button topics with a less than clear head. I touch on power dynamics between genders and races, too. How we, as a culture and individuals, perpetuate these flawed dynamics and beliefs - overtly and more subtly.

The not-so-rosy Chloe update.
As a preamble, a few days ago, I woke after an hour and a half to find Chloe limping/favouring one of her front paws. SeekingPlumb the Doubter
To doubt or not to doubt. In this episode, we travel through my struggles of doubting my knowledge and experiences too much & too little. We looked at the importance of doubt, yesterday. Today, we look at an historical example of hyper focused assumptions minus the doubt. Plus, we ponder a few modern day scenarios, wondering whether we allow room for doubting. Without doubt, how do we challenge our assumptions?
