Mandy Johnston is an Advanced Care Paramedic and Superintendent with Peel Regional Paramedic Services and program lead for the External Violence Against Paramedics (EVAP) portfolio of work. In early 2019, Mandy surveyed paramedics in Peel Region to ask about their experiences with workplace violence. After discovering that 97% of surveyed paramedics reported some exposure to workplace violence, Mandy led a comprehensive organizational response to the problem. The EVAP program includes a media awareness campaign, enhanced reporting measures, and an organizational policy of zero tolerance of violence against paramedics.
