Selection of Driers
Compressed air is used for a variety of applications. The air quality varies with the application. Air quality entails dryness and the purity of compressed air. Dryness is related to moisture content in air .Applications like painting , powder conveying , food cannot tolerate moisture. Hence , it is essential to eliminate moisture by use of appropriate driers . The degree of dryness or measure of dryness is indicated by dew point . Dew point is the key indicator but it’s not the only one that completes the specifications. In this episode I talk about the parameters for...

The Air Receiver - Components of the Compressed Air System
Compressed air system comprises many components. Appropriate selection of each component is vital for system efficiency. One such component is the air receiver. The receiver is installed on the downstream of the compressor. Though the term receiver is commonly used , it’s a storage tank that receives compressed air from the compressor and pushes it downstream into the network. From an energy efficiency standpoint, the right sizing of the receiver and location is quite important. The process parameters are also influenced by the sizing and location. Yet , there are instances of ignorance resulting in loss to...

Air is Free, but Compressed Air is NOT!
In manufacturing plants, awareness of compressed air efficiency is low. The primary objective is supplying a reliable and consistent source of air. Some manufacturers have service contract for equipment, but few address efficiency. 35% of manufacturers conduct leak prevention programs and 57% of manufacturers have taken no action to improve efficiency. It found that compressed air systems account for 10% of all electricity used in manufacturing industries. 70% of most manufacturing plants have a compressed air system and 50% of those plants have opportunities for large energy savings with low project costs.
