I 1895 afleverede den anerkendte kunstner Louis Hasselriis den voluminøse skulptur Danmarksmonumentet. Skulpturen blev præsenteret med pomp og pragt på sin nye placering foran Statens Museum for Kunst. Men dommen var hård: Skulpturen blev straks latterliggjort og hånet.
Allerhelst ville man have monumentet helt ud af syne og 22 år efter præsentationen lykkedes det at få monumentet gemt godt og grundigt væk i nærliggende Østre Anlæg.

De fleste som har prøvet at flytte fra ét hjem til et andet har nok oplevet det der med at finde en masse ting i processen, hvor man sidder og pakker alting ned i flyttekasser.
