"Isaac and Rebekah"After Sarah dies, Abraham buries her. Then Abraham sends a servant to find a wife for his son Isaac. God sends his angel with the servant. God brings Rebekah to the servant to become the wife for Isaac. We learn about God seeking about a bride for himself (the Church). I also spend some time teaching on eschatology, the resurrection, and the New Heavens and the New Earth.2022-03-2659 minReading GenesisGenesis 22. "The (Almost) Sacrifice of Isaac"God tests Abraham. He tells Abraham to take his only son Isaac to a mountain and offer him as sacrifice. We learn about Abraham's faith and his belief in the resurrection. Abraham proves faithful. At the last second, God stays Abraham's hand.2022-03-0836 minReading GenesisGenesis 21. "Isaac and Ishmael"Finally, after a 25 year wait the promised son, Isaac, is finally born. But there is a problem. Ishmael, Abraham's teenage on by Hagar, is unkind to the young Isaac. Sarah asks Abraham to send away Hagar and Ishmael. Through all of this, God proves his faithfulness to both Isaac and Ishmael.2022-03-0833 minReading GenesisGenesis 19:30 - 20:18. "Lot and His Daughters"After the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah Lot and his daughters may believe they are the only people left on earth. To remedy the situation Lot's daughters concoct a plan to intoxicate their father so they can sleep with him with hopes of conceiving children.
In chapter 20, Abraham tells Abimelech that Sarah is his sister so that Abimelech doesn't kill Abraham to take Sarah for himself.2022-03-0438 minReading GenesisGenesis 18:1 - 19:29. "Sodom and Gomorrah"Abraham is visited by three men, likely YHWH and two angels. Abraham displays amazing hospitality to these men. Later, Abraham intercedes for Sodom and Gomorrah. We discuss divine council theology, of which Abraham is now a part. We also look at eh destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah as it concerns inhospitality, homosexuality, and Lot's family.2022-03-0342 minReading GenesisGenesis 17. "The Sign of Circumcision"Abraham is given the sign of the covenant: circumcision.
