LIGHT OF MENORAH
Truth Nuggets - 13 - Psm. 15:1-3 Head & Heart & Hands & Feet
There is a concept so prevalent in the Hebrew Scriptures (the Old Testament - nothing "old" about it) and in the Messianic Texts (the New Testament) and my 1st teacher in Israel, Ray Vander Laan, termed it as, “Head and Heart and Hands and Feet.” Over and over again we read the about being righteous and it is pictured in the way we talk or hear or listen (our head) or in our work or results of what we do (hands) and in the ways we walk (feet) – walk in the commands of the Lord and walk in our o...

Two Messianic Jews
Should Christians Celebrate Sukkot? A Messianic Jewish Response to Hebrew Roots
Hebrew Roots and One Law teachers like Lex Meyer of Unlearn the Lies and Tim Hegg of Torah Resource frequently argue that Christians should celebrate Sukkot and all other Jewish Festivals because of the prophecy found in Zechariah 14:16-19. This is contrary to the Messianic Jewish position. I argue that Christians do not have this responsibility and appeal to Messianic Jewish leaders like Dr. David Rudolph, Dr. Daniel Juster, and Rabbi Russ Resnik in support of this position. Christians are not deficient for not observing distinctly Jewish customs. You can also watch on our YouTube channel

Deuteronomy (Messianic) Vol. I - The Harvest
46 ‘Ekev (Part B) - Because - Deuteronomy 7:12-11:25
Allow me to elaborate on this concept further using a quote from author Tim Hegg, one of the teachers at Congregation Beit Hallel in Tacoma, WA, as well as a significant contributor of materials for FFOZ. In his excellent work about the Apostle Paul ‘The Letter Writer’, Hegg, in the Prologue, makes this important note regarding the original languages of the Bible: One of the major difficulties we encounter in our discussion of “trust,” “believe,” and “faith/faithful,” is that there is no corresponding verbal form of “faith” in the English language. We have no way of saying that one “faithed” or that someo...

Omer Reisheet "First Sheaf" (Part A)
Issues Surrounding the “Timing” of Omer Reisheet Some readers will readily note that history has been generally “unkind” to this particular festival. What do I mean by “unkind”? I mean to draw your attention to the fact that no less than three prominent Jewish sects have come to interpret the timing associated with the start of this count in at least three respective, but differing ways. Author Tim Hegg has brilliantly noted such differences in his short paper ‘Counting the Omer’, viewable from his web site http://www.torahresource.com/ At least three different sects understood the chronology of the omer counting di...

Leviticus (Messianic) Vol. I - The Harvest
24 Vayikra (Part A) - He called - 1:1-5:26
As I stated in a previous parashah, God's system of animal sacrifices, with their ability to cleanse or “wash” the flesh, was never intended to be a permanent one. Conversely, the animal sacrifices were not intended to be a “temporary fix” either. In fact the etymological background of the word Torah (the root word being an archery term meaning to “direct towards the goal”) also suggests that the fullest measure of HaShem’s atonement (Hebrew=kafar is usually translated “to atone,” “to cover over,” “make reconciliation,” “pacify,” “propitiate,” “purge.” ) was not found in the earthly copies, but rather, in the heavenly originals. Yet, during the t...

In this extended excursus to Exegeting Galatians and its tough phrasing I wish to draw the student’s attention to various p’sukim (verses) that have traditionally led Christianity towards a passive or negative view of Judaism, Torah, or both. 3:19 Concerning this verse (3:19) Stern seems, in some ways, to take the popular Christian view as noted above just a step further. While not casting the Torah in a negative light, he nonetheless seems to not fully capture the intended meaning of Paul’s point there in verse 19. Because of his widespread acceptance among many messianic believers, his view is worth critiquing. Moreover, his popularity in the Messianic Community has far-reaching influence in the way the Movement forms their view of the Torah. I believe that as important a contribution as Stern has made to the Messianic Movement (I currently endorse hi...
