Normally I play three or four tracks at once, layering sounds and loops with them and cutting between them very quickly and aggressively. Here I am letting the tracks almost play out in full and taking a calmer, more relaxed approach. The tracks themselves range from music from Stephen Mallinder's debut solo LP Pow Wow from back in 1982 to upfront promos I've received in the last few days, there is some deeper techno but it is mainly melodic and atmospheric tracks.

I chose a photo I shot in the Arashiyama forest in Kyoto. This photograph always brings me back to a vivid moment in which time stood still and I simply enjoyed the present. It allowed for making a mix in isolation ever so much more enjoyable. No matter how abrasive or gentle, music shares so many similarities with the textures, colors, shapes, and movements of more organic entities.

This is already something I have been experimenting with when I DJ but I wanted to take things a bit further with a more precise and surgical approach which a studio mix allows for.
