Taste Of Oak Cliff 2022 w/Kevin and Robert
WAOC is mobile today and at one of my favorite festivals! We’re hanging out at the Taste of Oak Cliff. It’s a great community event, everyone comes together, store fronts, restaurateur’s and yes, a couple of sourcing and staffing agencies and one training center. So I wanted to take this opportunity while out and about to discuss jobs and careers and like I mentioned try and get a few questions answered as well. Being live its going to be a little noisy today so please bear with me! Hold up, let me see if I can grab...

A Strong Work/Life Balance is a thing...
Hey Team WAOC, everyone wrapping up the summer, getting the little ones back to school and trying to settle back into our routines? July was a whipping for me professionally. Nothing really got out of hand, I just got overloaded. I had a few 10 day classes come up, which was great, I really enjoy instructing those Logistics classes. I filled in or covered a couple of other positions for the company as well, again, nothing major, just my work week was expanded by several hours! Today I thought we’d talk about our work/life balance, or is th...

Marty here again with warehouse and operations as a career, and today I’d like to talk about a piece of equipment, well, in my experience, us warehouse folks will either love or grow to despise. I may have been a little overly dramatic there, but I’ve known some people that, well, just couldn’t or wouldn’t make it work. My experience has been with what is called a mini load. Remember those 3 Important Yearly Meetings
Hello all, Marty here with Warehouse and Operations as a Career. I want to thank you for checking in with us today, and I think I’d like to talk a little about Ethics, maybe a little on Workplace Violence and our Reporting. Earlier this week I was talking with a gentleman that had just came out of his Companies yearly meeting on Business Ethics. Several of the larger facilities I deal with have these little gatherings once or twice a year. I think we as warehousemen kind of feel meetings like these don’t really have anything to do with...

Anhydrous Ammonia, anyone know what that is? I’m Marty T Hawkins with Warehouse and Operations as a Career and we appreciate you checking in with us! My apologies, I’m a bit horse today but let’s have some fun anyway! I brought up the words Anhydrous Ammonia a few weeks ago and had gotten a few questions about it so lets look it up today! And they explain that Ammonia is a pungent colorless gaseous alkaline compound of nitrogen and hydrogen NH3 that is very soluble in water and...

Everyone having a great week out there. I certainly hope so! I’m Marty and welcome back to Warehouse and Operations as a Career. I made a mistake today. As a leader I probably make at least 25 plus mistakes each day. But things like putting a trailer in the wrong door or slotting an item in a slot that makes absolutely no sense or calling lunch before you’re far enough into the selection batches, or maybe assigning a load to the wrong individual. Ever operated a sweeper or scrubber? You know, one of those big machines with the big round sweeper brushes on it, there is usually a little round one sticking out on the right-hand side. On a combination unit it’ll have a long squeegee bowed around the back of it. Hi all, I’m Marty with Warehouse and Operations as a Career and that is just one subject that amazed me this week. It’s been another great week hasn’t it! I’m Marty and I’d like to thank you for joining us again here at Warehouse and Operations as a Career. This week let’s spend a few minutes on controlling expenses. I had a conversation last week with a V.P. of Op’s about a facility that had had over 1000 short on truck cases the previous week. That’s a huge error ratio and creates a very real expense to the company, not to mention the disservice to their accounts. I tell you what, we’ll get into all that in a m...

It’s late but I wanted to talk for just a few minutes about the Supply Chain. I’m Marty with Warehouse and Operations as a Career. Maybe it’s just that I’m trying to get so much done in a week! Well, enough of all that, I guess. We’ll have Rodrigo here with us today as well, if you remember he is a Regional Facilities Manager for a large sourcing company and has several Managers and Supervisors working with him at quite a few different locations. In earlier Episodes, we’ve talked about how to build our R...

That Guy - Batteries
Forklift and Palletjack batteries. Has your facility experienced any issues this week? Our supplier called us this week to schedule our quarterly P.M. on our equipment and almost immediately I started hearing about batteries. A palletjack battery in one state started smoking and another actually produced flames. At one facility an unloader forgot to replace a guard plate, well, he said it already wasn't there, which just meant that he failed to pre-trip his equipment, anyway he took off, made a turn and the battery slid out on the floor. And another great week is upon us here at Warehouse and Operations as a Career! Marty with you again and WAOC is on the road this week, a bit farther north than you’ll typically find me but what great weather up here in Pennsylvania. I’m quite the warm weather soul but I have to admit these 50 and 60 degree days are really nice and this is some beautiful country, being the fall season with the leaves turning, cool mornings and great people I can see the appeal. I’m traveling with John, a quick business trip and taking the oppor...

WAOC Mobile in Denver / Outbound Positions & Respecting Equipment
Welcome back to Warehouse and Operations as a Career, I’m Marty and it’s that time of year where we typically see Opportunities for employment picking up within our Industry. With summer vacations winding down and Schools gearing up many markets may experience hiring Opportunities and maybe some movement within our departments and promotions to other tasks or duties! In Distribution this is kind of prime time for Order Selectors, Runners, Haulers or really any position on the outbound or shipping side of the operations. We’ve had several questions from our recent episodes where we have discussed the elect...
