Conservative at Yale; Buckley Biographer Lawrence Perelman on William F. Buckley, Jr., The Man
On the newest episode of Pod and Man at Yale, Anshul Guha ’25 and Kevin Baisden LAW ’25 talked about what it means to be conservative at Yale: Guha: “I think the most important thing for me, as a conservative on campus at that time, was to make sure that I was continuing to speak out…and making sure that my views were heard just so that there was this opposing view on campus.”Baisden: “I didn’t self-censor. None of my closest friends at the law school self-censored. Even in classes—I’m just thinking back to my federal courts class, which...

Truce - History of the Christian Church
Republicans and Evangelicals I William F. Buckley v. Ayn Rand and the John Birch Society
Give to help Chris make TruceWilliam F. Buckley Jr. helped change the face of conservatism in the US because he gave it intellectual backing. But that doesn't mean that his ideas were accepted completely. He had several nemesis within his own movement that tried to derail him.One opponent was the John Birch Society. Buckley's whole modus operandi was to make conservatism respectable. But Robert Welch and other members of the JBS were using their movement to spread bogus conspiracy theories. They were actively discrediting the movement that Buckley tried to build. So Buckley...

Give to help Chris continue the Truce Podcast.Senator Robert Taft couldn't get the nomination. He tried to be the GOP's nominee for president three different times but could not get elected. Conservative Republicans' failure to get nominated by their own party was a source of much frustration. What could they do? Concerns of conspiracy spread through people like Phyllis Schlafly whose book A Choice Not an Echo claimed that "elites" were steering the party. It was into this world that a bright young man with an untraceable accent found his appeal. The James Baldwin v. William F. Buckley Debate
In 1965, James Baldwin debated William F. Buckley on the following topic: "Has the American Dream been Achieved at the Expense of the American Negro?" Baldwin argued first in the Affirmative, followed by Buckley. I wanted to post this debate, not because I regard the terms of the debate as legitimate (I do not, and in case it isn't obvious, I think Baldwin is completely in the right) but because of the fact that despite its historicity, this debate is almost mythological in status in the sense that it is still, somehow, continuing in America.

William F. Buckley Jr. a marný boj za čistší konzervatismus v USA
Když zmíníte americkou konzervativní revoluci a nástup takzvané „Nové pravice“, většina lidí si představí Ronalda Reagana.
