Mikrofoodie is a special performance created in collaboration with Fei Nie and Lorenzo Colombo. Vaguely inspired in Karlheinz Stockhausen's Mikrophonie and meant as a celebration of friendship and being together in these strange times, the piece consists on a "chef" (Fei Nie) making dinner, a microphonist (Lorenzo Colombo) capturing the sounds and an electronic musician (Xavier Bonfill) processing and manipulating the sounds in real-time.

This is a 10+ minute drone, perfect for staring at the walls.
It features the Mutable Instruments Tides module: here used as an oscillator with 4 different variations, that can be multiples or subdivisions of its original frequency, creating beautiful chords (in just intonation) that correspond to polyrhythms.
This was a big inspiration for me when I was writing YES FOR NO for symphony orchestra and 3 soloists.

A wonky beat with some eurorack stuff and a Teenage Engineering PO-32.
The PO-32 is a little drum machine that plays 16-step patterns.
It is cool but everything ends up being music in 4/4.
I found out that if I triggered it manually (from the modular) then I could f*** up with its timing.
That made it much more fun.

Another live remix from the “travel light” EP (2018).
Some samples from the original track are pitched down rather extremely and played back from the STS (Stereo Triggered Sample) module by 4ms.
The two independent samplers trigger each other automatically after the current sample has finished playing.. so altering the sample length of any of them causes the tempo to shake a little bit.

If this were a tape, the “B-side” of the record would start with this track. A little choir music to start things up again. It is early in the morning and the tape speed is a bit wobbly, so the singers don’t sound much in tune. Performed on the op-1.

February 2018: I was biking on my way back home passing the harbour by Refshalevej. There was snow all around. I stopped by, took the op-1 out and recorded the vocals for this song.
I still love pop songs. This one might be rearranged into something bigger at some point. But I also like it as a lo-fi sketch.

I wrote “YES FOR NO” for 3 soloists, symphony orchestra, electronics and light; all based on some strummed piano chords (playing inside the instrument) and the polyrhythms inside those chord frequencies.
This is just me taking those samples out for a spin on the STS sampler by 4ms.

Xavier Bonfillheptagon IIHeptagon is a short electronic piece, in two movements, that is inspired in Else Marie Pade's tape music piece "syv cirkler" from 1958. It was premiered in a concert by the group Neko3 organised by "Moderne Mandag".
All sounds were generated with a Make Noise "0Coast" semi-modular analog synth (with some other eurorack modules modulating it) and a Music Thing "Spring Reverb".
This is an UHJ stereo mix, which is a reduction from the original surround ambisonic mix.
