And this is the purpose of the bitter exile – to bring out the deep power of the Jewish people to transform darkness to light. This task is called “your work” – it’s not a direct instruction from Hashem, but something chooses on their own, akin to “all your deeds being for the sake of heaven.” Meaning, one doesn’t confine themself in their own home focusing only on their own self and family, but goes out to impact the world as well. In the audio today I try to draw out the personal side of Yirmiyahu as he is caught between the love of God's word within him on the one hand, with the pain of what it entails to be the transmitter of those words. I also had half a chiddush which I forgot to share in the recording. This year's focus was Kinnah #11, which (I argue) is a contender for one of the most important kinnos, since it was instituted by none other than Yirmiyahu himself, a couple of decades prior to the destruction of the Beis ha'Mikdash. This kinnah required a considerable amount of background information about Yoshiyahu ha'Melech and the tragedy of his death.
