Harlem Nights (1987)
What’s better than a mobster classic told by three generations of great comedians? Trying to follow this piecemeal ADD train of random quotes as we chug our way over to New York (aka Los Angeles) for Eddie Murphy’s action-comedy cult classic, “Harlem Nights” (1989), of course. In this critically panned, fan-adored, Gen X fever dream, Richard Pryor plays club owner and “numbers” boss “Sugar Ray” (yes, seriously) who is contending with the scheming likes of disgruntled gangster “Bugsy Calhoune” (no, we’re not kidding) played by the late, great Michael Lerner. Bugsy is not-so-silently fuming over the classic black vs white slight...

Blazing Saddles (1974)
It's time to saddle up and schlep out west. Although, with some of the modern choices in this noodle kugel-western you could probably strap on your seat belts. This week we're rolling our 3CG wagon train out to the wild west with Mel Brooks' 1974 classic, "Blazing Saddles". This movie has a lot to say about racism, sexism, and fill-in-the-blank-ism, in a way that is sure to make you laugh, cringe, maybe even re-evaluate some of your own biases, and then cringe again. This raunchy comedy follows Bart (Cleavon Little), a black railroad worker who becomes the unlikely she...

TW: There are heavy and pointed discussions of suicide and ideation. For those of you struggling with those thoughts, we suggest skipping this, or parts of this episode. If you or someone you know needs help, please dial 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline to speak with someone. Help is available. You’re never alone. There’s no need to walk in the dark. . . . Buckle up, 3CG fans, because this week we're diving back into the apex of teen drama and angst with the OG 1955 flick, "Rebel Without a Cause". Another golden H...

Adventures in Babysitting (1987)
Well, 3CG-ers, this is episode is one for the record books. Sticking around in the 80s which means you probably already guessed this is another of Garrett's picks. We were in a time crunch recording this one so we kept the ADD train on the tracks for what is probably our speediest episode to date. In his directorial debut, Chris Columbus is at the helm of this Elizabeth Shue lead comedy. Elizabeth plays Chris who has to venture into the big city to save her friend Brenda (Penelope Ann Miller) with her two charges, Brad and Sara, (K...

El Dorado (1966)
Giddy up, 3CG fans! This week, the gang is taking on a classic western with the 1966 John Wayne film, "El Dorado". From shootouts to horseback rides, this movie has all the elements of a classic cowboy flick. So grab your cowboy hat and get ready for a rootin'-tootin' good time! In this dusty old western, John Wayne stars as a gunslinger who teams up with his old friend (Robert Mitchum) to help a man reclaim his stolen land. White Christmas (1954)
So technically nobody picked this episode, although Hannah compiled this list so we are going to give her credit, or is that blame? I guess it depends on which 3CG-er you side with. Even though much to Garrett’s dismay, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation didn’t make the cut this month, we manage to lampoon this “National Treasure” or at least some of us do. Add another Michael Curtiz flick to the pod, the first being Casablanca, with this 1954 musical starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen. Did we say musical? Sorry Matt! At least this...

Citizen Kane (1941)
Well, 3CG-ers, that foray into watching films in color was short-lived. We’re going back to black (and white) with a 1941 classic, and we’ll give you one guess as to who picked this one. Our old-soul-black-and-white-morality-raised-on-the-classics millennial, Hannah, picked our second movie for November and what is arguably one of the greatest films ever made, “Citizen Kane”. Orson Welles wrote, directed, and starred in this classic 2-hour epic that much like “Halloween”, breathed a gasp of fresh air into modern-day cinema. Funnily enough, it took us about 2-hours to discuss this masterpiece, but don't worry, unlike certain past ep...

Halloween (1978)
Yes, we know, technically spooky season is over (except in our hearts, where it’s all year long), but this is Matt's first pick to make it into the show, so we cut him some slack. Clearly falling for the master director John Carpenter’s style in "They Live," Matt takes us back to 1978 and to arguably the birth of the modern-day slasher film with his SpOoOkY revenge pick, "Halloween". In a 3CG-first, none of the krewe had even seen this cult classic before. However, the premise and genre sparked a fascinating internal "will he or won...

They Live
While we would like this episode to be like Meg Foster’s piercing blue eyes and cut straight to the point, it’s more like that 6-minute fight scene between ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper and America’s favorite President, Keith David. We may only discuss the actual movie “They Live” (1988) for about 6 minutes of this 90+ minute podcast, but like the film, the tangents we stray off onto are a teaser for what’s to come. Much like we masquerade as an actual movie podcast, “They Live” is a biting, satirical look at capitalism and greed masquerading as a B-Movie horror flick...

Freaks (1932)
What happens when Garret doesn’t watch the time and the ADD train leaves the track and any semblance of structure behind? You get a tangentially related take on the 1932 Horror classic, Freaks, that’s longer than the movie itself. Since MGM freaked out, pun intended, over Browning’s original 90-minute cut, the final available film is a short but not-so-sweet, must-watch that clocks in at just over an hour. However, the lasting reverberations created by the intended social commentaries can be felt even today in the subsequent generations of cult classics, for better or worse.

Rocky Horror Picture Show
Well, we’re hopping back in time, or rather warping, with The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Another cult classic delight from the same glorious mind that brought you, Priscilla, Terry J. Nelson. The krewe discusses the myriad pitfalls of gender and sexuality, Matthew tries to keep up his good Catholic boy facade, Terry fusses over Jasper, Hannah enlightens the krewe about the origins of the Rainbow Flag, and Garrett just tries to keep the show moving. There may be some problems with the delivery, but there’s a little something for everyone to...

Casablanca
Yet another Golden Age Hollywood classic but this time from the romantic mind of Terry J. Nelson. Tune in as the boys bemoan the woes of love and being the better person while Hannah tries to bring the movie into a modern context with discussion points and woke buzzwords galore. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
This week’s pick is another Golden Age Hollywood classic from our own golden-haired, Hollywood girl herself. Tune in as Hannah tests the theory of if Gentlemen [really do] Prefer Blondes or if it’s all just ticklish business any way you look at it. While the boys may have been enamored with the bombshell duo of Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe, Hannah definitely had some tricks up her sleeve with some of those musical numbers. Will the boys finally learn to do pre-show research? So far only our resident historian, Garrett, has taken up that mantle as he de...

Them!
Join us this week as we discuss the 1954 Horror/Sci-Fi classic Them! If you are following along at home make sure you include 1954 and the ! in Them! lest you end up researching Van Morrison or the Amazon series. No, this good old slice of Americana stars James Whitmore (The Shawshank Redemption), James Arness, (Gunsmoke), and Joan Weldon. Another one of Hannah's picks, which we swear are totally random, this episode starts out talking about Louis CK and fellatio and it's pretty much all downhill from there. Garrett, Hannah, and Terry drank so much C4 during the course...

Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore
Join us for another episode where we discuss the 1974 Martin Scorsese film "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" starring Kris Kristofferson and Ellen Burstyn. If this episode seems a little heavy on Hannah and Garrett's side it's probably because Terry forgot how to use a microphone and Matthew forgot he had one. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Enjoy this episode and stay tuned next month for two brand new movies that are revealed at the end of this episode. Spoiler alert: We are pretty sure Hannah rigged this one as our movies for next month go back... like way back... Who knew a Mille...

Join us this week for the pre-code 1934 classic The Thin Man where we discuss getting into Myrna Loy’s drawers. Besides Myrna Loy, the W. S. Kinky Boots
Rob has a saying, "Ain't no kink-shaming here at 3CG" which leads us to Hannah's pick for Pride Month, Kinky Boots. Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Joel Edgerton this 2005 comedy about a UK shoemaker that gets into the business of making boots for Drag Queens can't be too problematic right? We didn't censor Terry on this one and Garrett and his shoe fetish find his voice. Well, it's Hannah "Green Tinted Sixties Mind" Kaufman's movie pick this week so we are heading back to 1966 and the George Axelrod film, Lord Love a Duck, starring Roddy McDowall and Tuesday Weld alongside Ruth Gordon and Harvey Korman. Have you watched the film? If so you will probably understand why we go completely off the rails this week. It's so bad that not even Garrett can get the train back on the tracks. Without A Paddle
In this episode, the 3CG gang discusses the 2004 film Without A Paddle starring Matthew Lillard, Seth Green, and Dax Shepard with a very special appearance by Rob's all-time favorite man-crush Burt Reynolds. Terry only has to be censored once during this episode but it's a long censor, Garrett drops his connections to Ethan Suplee, and Abraham Benrubi, because of course, he does, and Hannah threatens actual violence against a member of the 3CG team. One Crazy Summer
Are we back to John Cusack already? We went from "Say Anything" to the 1986 "Savage" Steve Holland film "One Crazy Summer". There's some debate over just how hot Demi Moore is, and spoiler alert, only one of the four of us are in the "not" category. Hannah suggests a way to censor some of Terry's more problematic slips with some creative sound effects. It was either that or another "trigger warning" and that would have probably made Rob's head explode. Garrett is the only one with a lengthy echo chamber this week. You can be th...

Say Anything
What happens when we talk about the 1989 Cameron Crowe classic Say Anything and 1/2 of the group doesn't understand the plot? (Looking at you, Hannah and Terry) You get a more scattershot ADD episode than usual, and for this bunch that is really saying something, but clocking in at almost 2 hours should tell you something. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
Rob has been actively trying to make Hannah's head explode with his movie picks and hasn't been able to do it just yet. Will one of his all-time favorite movies, the 2004 insta-classic, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy do the trick? Or will it be Terry that is offended by some "low hanging fruit"? We continue our month of fools with Hannah's pick for April, the 1963 classic, The Pink Panther starring David Niven,Peter Sellers, Robert Wagner, and Capucine. There have to be all kinds of problems with this 1963 film right? I mean that is why Hannah picked this one right? Other than maybe trying to bestow a little culture on Garrett, Terry, and Rob, why else would she? A lot of people call the tcaag gang fools but this is no joke. Written by Jerry Zucker, Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Pat Proft and directed by David Zucker, the movie stars Leslie Nielsen, Priscilla Presley, Ricardo Montalban, and George Kennedy. In a departure from their usual lighthearted fare, the boys and Hannah tackle our final movie for Women's History Month, the 1993 film The Piano. The film stars Holly Hunter,Harvey Keitel,Sam Neill, and in her Oscar-winning debut Anna Paquin. This a heavy film with some serious subject matter so we have included a warning at the beginning of the episode in case anyone wants to skip this one and head on to our less serious films.
